East Ridge is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee. It is located on the east bank of the Cumberland River and is bordered by the towns of Lebanon, Florence, and Uniontown. The population was 1,872 at the 2000 census. The first people to live in East Ridge were farmers who started raising crops in the early 1800s. By 1860, most of the original settlers had moved away because of a change in government policy that allowed slaveowners toacialize their slaves. In 1876, East Ridge was incorporated as a village. The following year saw the opening of its first store and post office. In 1887, only one inhabitant lived in East Ridge; by 1890 it had reached 2 residents. In 1914, East Ridge became part ofKnox County when it was created from parts of Lebanon and Uniontown. At that time there were only 7 residents in East Ridge; by 1920 it had increased to 17 with 3 stores and 9 homes. In 1931, during World War II Japanese Americans living in Knox County were interned at nearby Fort Sumter until their liberation on April 12th that year. With war ending came an influx of refugees into Knox County which led to an increase in population growth for East Ridge throughout the 1940s and 1950s: during this time many new houses were built as well as businesses such as a grocery store and gas station across from what is now known as Park Elementary School which opened its doors on October 16th 1951

It is also home to the East Ridge School District, which serves grades Pre-K through 12th grade. The first settlers in this area were farmers who came from Kentucky in the 1830s. They began to grow corn, wheat, rice, tobacco and other crops. In 1881, the railroad was built through this area and made it easier for people to get around. The village of East Ridge began to form around 1920 when several women decided to start their own grocery store together. The name of the store was changed to Pioneer Woman's Grocery after that year's dedication by the founding mothers. Over time, more businesses cropped up in East Ridge such as a bank, hardware store, lumberyard and restaurant/cafeteria combination called Joe's Pizza Place which served pizza until 1984*.
