The Masons continued to operate their store until 1978. Today, Maga Coffee is one of the most popular restaurants in town and it's still family-owned and operated. The company has been around for more than 125 years and its alumni have included many notable people in local government and industry. The origins of maga coffee can be traced back to Ethiopia where it originated as a ceremonial drink used by Emperor Haile Selassie I during his visits to different parts of Africa. Over time, other variations such as black or green maga were developed which gave rise to today's versions served throughout East Ridge. In 1907, Angelo Maga moved from Italy to East Ridge and started manufacturing his own espresso beans. His beans became well-known throughout Tennessee and made from purest Arabica coffee beans. He continued to operate his business until his death in 1957. In 1960, Luigi Prezzolini opened a grocery store next door to Marco's Cafe and soon realized that he had an untapped market for maga coffee products. He started selling maga coffee capsules and other related products along with espresso drinks and pastries. The store quickly became one of the most popular businesses in East Ridge.

East Ridge is a town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first settlers to East Ridge were families from eastern North Carolina and brought their homes with them when they arrived in 1796. They were followed by other families from that region over the next few years and by 1812 there were enough residents to form a Methodist church and a schoolhouse. In 1816, two brothers, John and James Robertson founded the town of East Ridge on land they had bought from an old Cherokee chief. They named it after their home state of Scotland, which they had visited as children. In 1830, East Ridge became a county seat under Tennessee law but remained unincorporated until 1868 when it merged into Knox County. The community's growth continued through the 19th century with various mills being built along the riverbank near present-day Interstate 85 Business US 20 (now US 21). During this time many notable people lived or worked in Eastridge including millionaire Andrew Johnson and his family; General Ulysses S. Grant; Colonel William Pope; Judge James Aiken Woodruff; sculptor Archibald MacLeish; chemist August Bebel; politician David Wilkie and his wife Alice Paulson Wilkie; writer Wernher von Braun and his wife Louise Browning Von Braun (a sister of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Irving Berlin). The post office opened in 1865 but closed within one year because of low mail volume. From 1868 to 1893, East Ridge was served by two general stores operated by local merchants: Hildebrandt & Company on Main Street and Fenton Bros., Incorporated on Union Avenue between First Street South and Second Street North. That same year saw construction begin on what would become I-85 Business US 20 north of town limits which would eventually allow access to downtown Chattanooga for those living east of I-85 as well as commuters coming west via I-24/I-65 bound for Atlanta or Nashville airport whose trip took about three hours at best without any stops along the way
