Mr. Sawaya noted that since there wasn't much available land to grow coffee on in Tennessee, people would often travel to nearby states such as Mississippi or Alabama to purchase beans from different farmers. In 1902, George Peete started another major coffee company in Dyersburg called Peete's Coffee House & Cafe. This business quickly became well-known for its fresh roasted beans and delicious chocolate milk drinks. Over time, other businesses joined Peete's Coffee House & Cafe including The Goodmans store which opened in 1916 and later became known as The eventual Starbucks location today. The first settlers in what would become Dyersburg were three families who arrived on May 14, 1815 from Mobile, Alabama. They named their new land "Dyersburgh" after Samuel Dyer, an early settler and captain of a slave ship that brought them overland to this area. The town was founded on October 26, 1830 by James Caldwell and his wife Polly Peavy Caldwell with the help of six others chartering the Fayetteville & Nashville Railroad. Dyersburg quickly became a center for cotton production due to its location near the river and its access to water resources. In addition to its agricultural role, Dyersburg also served as a transportation hub for rural areas in Marshall County until the opening of Interstate 40 about 20 miles (32 km) east of town in 1959 made it easier for people to move around without having to go all the way downriver. Today, Dyersburg is home to many businesses including Two Rivers Tire & Rubber Company and McGhee Tyson Foods Incorporated which are two of the largest meatpacking companies in America. Additionally there are several hospitals such as Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Children's Healthcare Of Memphis located within walking distance of downtown.

Dyersburg, Tennessee is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 8,412 at the 2010 census. It is the principal city of Dyersburg-Fulton County and the county seat of Hardin County. The name "Dyersburg" is derived from "dyer" meaning to clean or toilet; and "burger" meaning village or settlement. The first permanent settler in what would become Dyersburg was James Fenton who came overland from Kentucky in 1819. He named his new community after his home state of Virginia, where he had been born in 1784. Other early settlers included John Beattie, David Hawksworth and John Sellers. In 1835, Hagan Rice founded a sawmill on the White River near present-day Gadsden State University and began producing lumber for local homes by driving logs downriver to be cut into boards, posts and railings. In 1853, General George Milling Company built a mill on Stones River north of present day Dyersburg which became one of the most important mills in Northwest Tennessee during that time period due to its production of flour, paper products and other items needed for daily life throughout much of the Midwest. The company also manufactured firearms including rifles and shotguns under license from Congress until 1861 when they were banned because of American Civil War efforts to control slavery through military force In 1862 cotton Ginning operations started up in nearby Chattanooga as part of an effort by Confederate Generals Braxton Bragg and Nathan Bedford Forrest to obtain oil supplies beyond those available at Vicksburg Mississippi while their army was besieging that city – this led eventually to Chattanooga becoming an industrial center with over 100 businesses employing over 50 thousand people as well as related manufacturing sites such as foundries (smelting), breweries (making beer), dyers (weaving fabrics), bricklayers (building) The arrival of mechanized transportation allowed farmers more efficient ways to get goods ashore longer distance while maintaining prices below costs associated with horse drawn transportation so textile production increased significantly beginning around 1915 resulting in some 1 million pounds being processed each year prior to World War II . Today there are still significant concentrations among Main Street merchants along 4th Street South between Marshall Avenue North & Wilson Boulevard Northeast

Today, there is only a small population living in downtown Dyersburg while most of the rest of the town has been abandoned.
