On 15 October 1945 RAF Bomber Command dropped its first atomic bomb over Japan at Hiroshima, becoming the first country to do so in World War II. The USAFactivatedthe 2d Bombardment Wing at Alamogordo AFB on 15 November 1948 and it became active supporting Tactical Air Forces (TAC) during the Vietnam War. The wing flew more than 9,000 sorties and lost 262 aircraft including 72% of its flying personnel killed or missing in action during that conflict; however, it played a significant role in Operation Rolling Thunder which destroyed much of North Vietnam infrastructure before their final defeat by South Vietnamese forces

Dyersburg, Tennessee is a city in Butler County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. Dyersburg is the fourth-largest city in Butler County after Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga. It lies on the Cumberland River south of Chattanooga and north of Knoxville. Downtown Dyersburg is home to several commercial districts including the Arts District, which contains several galleries and theaters as well as businesses such as Starbucks and Prudential Financial. There are also several housing developments scattered throughout downtown that range from affordable to luxury apartments. The first known meeting of people from what is now Dyersburg took place on July 4th, 1802 when three families from Kentucky arrived there seeking new land for their crops. After failed attempts by other promoters to find a site for a town they founded their temporary settlement on the banks of the Cumberland River northwest of what is now downtown Dyersburg in what is now Monroe Township. The name "Dyer" was given to them by General James Wilkinson who had commanded American forces during the Creek War (1811-1813). They were joined by five others who had come downriver with Wilkinson's army: John Dychett (a Welshman), George Dixon (an Anglican), Christopher Robertson (a Scottish man), Amos Putnam (a Quaker) and Nicholas Rankin(A Presbyterian). In 1814 Williamson’s troops burned down their bridge over the Cumberland River so that future settlers could not travel east or west across it without leaving behind their belongings.(1) By this time most of those living near where Dyerstown now stands were British subjects because removed from Ireland during King George III's Great Irish Famine.(2) Dyersburg began continued growth following its incorporation as a municipality in 1907.(3) Its annexation into Butler County followed in 1912.(4) A fire destroyed much of downtown Dyerberg in 1915 but helped start an era of rebirth for this once struggling community which saw rapid growth thanks to heavy industrialization along with an increase in jobs brought about by World War I.(5) The post-war boom ended abruptly with the stock market crash of 1929 which laid bare many inequalities still extant within Appalachia despite significant strides made since then; one which directly impacted local businesses such as mills closed due to lack of customers or difficulty getting government contracts due to red tape. Despite these challenges though, downtown Dyerberg has seen consistent redevelopment throughout its history culminating with its reopening as a business district in 2006 following years spent municipally rehabilitating properties around it while keeping core functions open.) While some aspects have declined since 2008 such as joblessness rates among younger adults(6) or increases in crime rates((7)), overall trends suggest that downtown Dyerberg remains vibrant and active despite some differences between periods due primarily to dedication by city officials towards maintaining public infrastructure while private industry increasingly takes control outside development limits – something often cited as key reason why municipal bonds have outperformed general investment markets over recent decades.) Today, there are tens of thousands of service members who serve in the USAF all over the world. The USAF has played a leading role in numerous conflicts throughout history, including Operation Desert Storm (1991), Operation Enduring Freedom (2001-2002), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003-2004), Afghanistan War (2008-2009), Syrian Civil War (2011-2012) and Yemen’s Houthi Rebellion (2018).

Dyersburg is located in 1820 at the junction of the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers. The town was named after Dyersburg, Kentucky, where a stop on the Santa Fe Trail was made in 1819. The first school in Dyersburg opened in 1835. In 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, leaving Dyersburg unoccupied during the American Civil War. After the war ended, many businesses moved to Nashville and other cities while Dyersburg continued to grow slowly until World War II when it became an agricultural center with cotton plantations and a small military garrison. During World War II, Dyerburgh was one of several towns in Tennessee bombed by Nazi Germany as part of their Operation Ghetto Plan. Today, much of the downtown core is preserved as a historic district which includes some of the earliest buildings in town including a courthouse and jail built between 1840-1845. Some of the older residences that still stand today were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970.
