The Air Force has been providing air support for the Tennessee Valley since World War II. The unit was activated on July 1, 1941 as the 1st Bombardment Wing of the Eighth Air Force. From its inception until September 1945, the wing operated out of RAF Dickson in western Scotland. The wing transitioned to Boeing B-29 Superfortresses in late 1945 and continued operations untilactivated on August 15, 1946. The wing's flying assets were transferred to operational control of Ninth Air Force on October 3, 1946 and it was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington untilactivated on December 15, 1948. On activation as a wings organization under Tactical Air Command (TAC), 1st Bombardment Wing became a component station of that command effective January 6, 1949 when it moved from Fairchild to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. Initially equipped with P-51 Mustangs and F4U Corsairs however these types of aircraft were gradually replaced by A-7 Corsair IIs in early 1951 due to their superior range and bombing capability over hitherto existing fighters including the Republic F-84D Thunderjet and Douglas A-20 Havoc. Inactivated again on October 16th 1953 when all active USAF Wings were consolidated into TacticalAir Command under AFHQ headquarters command with Headquarters USAF at MacDill AFB Florida which also included elements of Third AF (later FirstAF) which had been activated only two months earlier during the Korean War). Today's 1st BW is composed entirely of legacy propeller driven jet aircraft utilizing ANG codesharing agreements with NORAD/FAA retired numbers throughout its operating fleet: KC135 Stratotanker(R)s; C-130H Hercules(A); EC-135J Compass Call(B); Eurowings E3 Sentry/Cougar; EA‑6AL Prowler; HH‑60E Ghostrider; GSU‑5 Albatrosses). Additionally maintenance & operations facilities include Randolph AFB's Luke Field Annex for transient use while Mainz AFB has an emergency response mission unit known as Response team Alpha located there exclusively for this purpose housing both MH–47 Chinook Helicopters (ARMY MASH – formerly WV annotations – see attached photo)

Dickson, Tennessee is a small town located in Knox County, Tennessee. The population was 914 at the 2000 census. Dickson was founded by Alexander Dickson in 1827 and became an incorporated town in 1852. The name of the town comes from Scottish explorer David Dickson who explored the area during the 19th century. The first school in Dickson was built on what is now Main Street. A second school was built on McLean Avenue in 1859 and it served as the community's only school until 1955 when a new elementary school was built on East Main Street. In 1916, a brick church was erected in honor of Reverend Dr. James Ladd and it remains standing to this day. In 1933, a new cotton ginnery called McAllister Mill was opened in Dickson and continues to be used today. This mill produced jeans for American clothing companies such as Guess, Levi’s, Fordham University, Sears Roebuck & Co., Joplin State College and other businesses throughout the 1930s and 1940s. During World War II, many people from Dickson enlisted in the military or worked at local factories to help support the war effort. Some of these people are still remembered today like Sgt.(jg) Leroy Pritchard who helped produce Patton's armor while he commanded Ninth Army during Normandyoperation June-July 1944; Pvt (lgt) Don Easley who served with 4/8 U S National Guard Infantry Battalion 101st Airborne Division during fighting near Bastogne; Pfc (2d Lt) John Fenton who fought against Japanese forces at Iwo Jima; Cpl (1st Lt) Alonzo Kincaid who fought along with his unit “The Wildcats” against overwhelming odds at Okinawa; Sgt(jg) John Lovell Jr., 3/2 US Infantry Regiment 133rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team which operated behind enemy lines near Anzio beachhead; Capt.(Lt.) Walter Pugh III whose unit attacked shore batteries around Cape Gloucester after Allied landings on Okinawa On 5 December 1945 . Dickson also played an important role during World War II as one of five towns located within miles of Memphis that were used for housing troops stationed within strategic points along I-10 corridor between Memphis and Nashville - these sites included Fort Campbell barracks atopknob including parade ground where more than 10 million rounds were fired over period May 1942- Jan 1945
