Crossville is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. Crossville is located on the Cumberland River and has a ZIP code of 76536. The first settler in what is now Crossville was James Caldwell, who arrived in 1814. Caldwells brother-in-law Andrew Brown also Settled in this area in 1815. In 1816, John Payne founded a post office here. The first school was built here in 1819 by David Sprague. Robert Stephenson built the first railroad through Williamson County in 1830, and Crossville became a part of that railroad company. In 1865, William McCoy settled here with his family from Manchester, England. McCoy started an agricultural farm which he ran until his death in 1916. His son Harry WMcCoy continued to run the farm until it was sold to Jerald Hensley in 1984. 2nd Lt George Rogers served as Postmaster from 1886-1892 After serving as Postmaster for 2 years he returned to farming but after only one year on duty again moved to Chattanooga to start his own grocery store called "Rogers' Grocery." He died there on May 15th 1904 after a long illness

Crossville is a town in Marshall County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The name "Crossville" is thought to come from two neighboring villages called "Croxton" and "Crossroads". The first time this name was used it referred to a crossing on the Cumberland River between these two villages. The name then evolved into what it now stands - Crossville being derived from the word "croquet" which means a game played with wagons and poles across an open space or field. The history of Crossville goes back to 1827 when General James Robertson founded a trading post in present-day Crossville on the banks of the Cumberland River. This early outpost served as a point of departure for traders and travelers who traveled through Marshall County during that era. Over time, other businesses were established in CrossVILLE including milling plants, blacksmiths, saddlers, carpenters etc., which has led to its nickname “the Junction City” because so many industries have been located here over time. In 1907, Mayor Johnnie Byrd organized a city government for Crossville after years of discussion by local citizens. At that time there were no schools in the small town and most residents had to attend school at nearby Knoxville or Murfreesboro. In 1911 voters approved a referendum creating city limits and giving their approval for annexation by Knoxvile Township which happened on March 3rd of that year.
