Navy Deployed Gift History in Crossville, Tennessee began in the early 1800s when Commodore James Wilkinson organized the First Tennessee Volunteers. The Volunteer Regiment was formed on December 12, 1837 from several companies of militiamen who had enlisted during the Jacksonian Revolution. Commodore Wilkinson offered a bounty for the capture of any Confederate soldier who could provide information leading to the conviction and execution of General Andrew Johnson. After years of effort by local citizens, members of the Navy Department eventually located and captured General John Bell Hood on February 17, 1865 at Kingston, Georgia. This event marked an important turning point in United States history as it signaled the end of slavery in America. The USS Constitution (1862) was also deployed to Kingston that day as part of President Abraham Lincoln’s Operation Neptune’s Spear campaign against Confederate forces. Naval vessels have often been used to convey gifts toilitary personnel stationed abroad since World War II. During World War II, sailors from both our military and naval forces conducted numerous amphibious assaults along Normandy beaches including Saint-Lô and Omaha Beach. The USS Constitution served in the Union Navy during the Civil War and was decommissioned in 1847. The USS Constitution was transferred to the Confederate States of America and served as their flagship during the war.
Crossville is a town in Clay County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,874 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clay County. Crossville is part of the Memphis Metro Area. The first mention of Crossville was in 1805 when James Robertson built a cabin on the bank of the Cumberland River. In 1820, John Cooke opened a store and post office in what is now downtown Crossville. In 1830, Isaac Newton bought land at what is now crossroads square and established Newton's Mills along the riverbank for cotton production. In 1840, David Fenton organized a Methodist church here and founded Crossville Academy to educate young men and women for workaday life in this increasing cotton-growing country. By 1850, CrossVILLE had more than 30 buildings including stores, hotels and homes that housed some of Shelby County's earliest white settlers In 1861 during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert Ewell sent Union Army troops into town to arrest three local citizens who had helped munitions manufacturers build weapons for Union forces -thus starting what would become known as "TheCrossville Raid." Three days later on Easter Sunday 1865 Union forces burned down all three businesses in downtown Crossville before marching into town to burn down all remaining Confederate munitions factories across Shelby County that year After the war ended Reconstruction began which led to increased job opportunities for African Americans but also social unrestrained by white society which continued through many years until eventually leading to formalized segregation beginning with Brown v Boarding School Actgregation ruling by U.S. Supreme Court in 1954 followed by other cases throughout Tennessee culminating with statewide integration taking place in 1965 only one business still remains open today - Einstein Bros Bagels

The next year, Admiral David Dixon Porter presented USS Constitution (Cayuse) with an officer’s uniform case filled with artifacts from Tahiti as a thank you for their part in suppressing French piracy off that island during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1907, Rear Admiral John A. Dahlgren presented USS Constellation (Cougar) to his brother-in-law Rear Admiral Lewis Latham II on behalf of US Naval Forces Europe after Latham had served as commanding officer during World War I. That same year, Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan awarded USS Lexington (Acasta) to Commander George Dewey Jr., commander of Destroyer Squadron Two (DesRon 2). Five years later, Commodore James Wainwright presented USS Arizona (BB-39) to Commanding Officer William Fitch CBE on board HMS Sutherland when that ship was sunk off Okinawa Prefecture during World War II. During President Harry S Truman’s tenure in office, he orderedUSS Potomac (AGI-10) be sent to Japan in order to provide humanitarian assistance following its atomic bombing raids against Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Also during Truman’s time as president, he providedUSS Atlanta (HAV-1) with new boilers and rudder shafts after that ship was damaged while serving as flagship of Task Force 58 at Ulithi Atoll during World War II. During Ronald Reagan’s term as president began on January 20th , 1979 – less than one week before his inauguration – he orderedUSS Yorktown(CV-5) be delivered to Spain after it was bombed by Spanish forces at Ortega Bay near Havana Harbor on February 14th . Today there are many different ways for people around the world to join up with the United States Navy through deployments both homeported and overseas. Crossville is an historic town in Cumberland County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 918 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1825 by General James Wilkinson and named for his brother-in-law, Colonel Samuel Cross. The town grew slowly until it became a major rail center in the early 20th century. After World War II,Crossville experienced growth as a manufacturing center due to its proximity to zipper factories and other heavy industry. However, with the decline of heavy manufacturing in the late 21st century, Crossville has begun to experience economic stagnation and declining populations.

It became a county seat on November 1, 1823 and remained so until December 15, 1827 when it became an independent city. The city was named for General James Hays Cross who had served in the Union army during the American Civil War.
