The Crossville Air Force Base is home to the Tennessee Air National Guard's 146th Airlift Wing, which provides airlift support for various military andcivilian missions. The wing also operates two C-130 Hercules aircraft, both of which are in use by the Crossville Police Department as a law enforcement transport. Airforce gifts have been a part of the community since Crossville was established in 1941. After World War II, the United States Air Force began awarding grants to local businesses to provide gift certificates or other forms of appreciation for their services to the military. This tradition continued until 1984, when Crossville became an unmanned USAF Base. As USAF operations transitioned from manual to electronic systems in 1990, gift certificate programs were discontinued and instead donation drives were initiated in order to continue honoring service members and their families. Since 2001,Crossville has participated in the Pentagon's "Gift of Peace" program through giving away items that commemorate important moments or events in our history. The program celebrates peace through giving away unique items such as American flags and bookplates from military installations around the world. In addition, we have donated clothing, toys, groceries and more throughout the years during this annual event. All proceeds go directly back into supporting our local economy while bringing joy to those who experience it!

The Crossville-based Air Force Museum is home to more than 30,000 items from the military and its dependents. The museum's gift history dates back to World War I when an American soldier donated a machine gun to the military. In 1961, the Air Force Museum moved into its current location on West End Avenue in Crossville.
Crossville is a small town in Cooke County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson Metropolitan area. Crossville was founded in 1871 by John and Martha Cross of Union Township in Robertson County. The Cross family continued to live there until 1924 when they relocated to Palestine, Texas. Martha died there in 1946 and John moved back to Crossville two years later. By 1951, the Cross family had grown so large that they decided to move again and continue living there permanently. Today, the cross on Main Street stands as a reminder of their roots in this small town where they have lived for more than 80 years. The first mention of Crossville can be found in a deed from 1871 which states: "This place (Crossville) will hereafter be known as Crossville Fork." It is likely that John or one of his descendants named their home after his maternal grandmother who also ranched land hereabouts. In 1881, homesteaders laid out plots near what is now downtown Crossville and many remain today including those behind Third Avenue Library and around North Second Street Baptist Church (Avenue G). The early residents were farmers with livestock such as cattle, pigs and hogs being raised on their properties as well as growing corn, beans and tomatoes for local consumption. A post office was established hereon December 15th,1881 under the name Palestine due to its close proximity to Jerusalem at that time; however it would not open until February 14th following the death of Postmaster David Williamson whose wife Mary reopened it on her behalf with mail service coming twice daily from Philadelphia via Stagecoach wagon routes between those centers! Presbyterian missionaries acting through the American Missionary Association arrived here September 1863 bringing Christianity into this region thus fulfilling an Old Testament prophecy! After several months of construction work Mrs Williamson hand delivered her new postal service within days of arriving & opened January 3rd 1865 with Pte James Eames serving as First Postmaster! This lively little community quickly grew busy with people traveling from all over northeast Tennessee stopping at Canaan for goods & services before continuing onward on stage coaches or wagon trains across Kansas State line then down through Lebanon river valley crossing into Kentucky then on into Virginia w/pregnant ladies taking advantage of free transportation provided! Mrs Williamson served until her death suddenly & unexpectedly June 9th 1916 just four days shy of her 104th birthday! Her husband James followed her soon afterwards becoming Postmaster Emeritus thru 1984 when he retired prior to his death aged 86 years having held that position since January 3rd 1912!!! Nowadays you can find several items related to Mrs Williamson’s life online including an interesting article about her yearlong stay at Stonehenge!! One thing is for sure though - she left an indelible mark upon this little corner of Cooke County!!"

The airplane has been featured on several TV shows and movies, most notably War of the Worlds (1958), Star Wars (1977), James Bond Live From London 1966 (1967) and Die Hard (1988).
Crossville is a small town in Fayette County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Crossville is located on a rural plain northeast of Nashville and south of Memphis. It straddles the border of Fenton and Trimble Counties and is bordered by the municipalities of Clarksville to the east, Lebanon to the west, Hopkinstown to the north, and Spring Hill to the south. The first human settlement in what is now Crossville dates back to 1811 when General Beauregard established Fort Loudoun in present-day Crossville after defeating an Indian force at what is now Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In 1814 General Andrew Jackson's army invaded Fayette County and burned all but one house in present-day Crossville during its stay nearpresent day Tellico Hills. In 1815 Captain John Ritchie built a sawmill on White Oak Creek upstream from where cross streets later became SR 6 & 7. In 1840 Union troops under Brigadier General Thomas Jordon burned most of Crossville while occupying it as part of their push against Confederate forces retreating from Chattanooga before that city's fall. A post office was established at Crossville in 1840, but discontinued operations two years later after only six senders received mail due to lack of space at thenewspaper depot across town at present day SR 116 & 117. In 1853 Major Levi Coffin erected a log cabin near where SR 6 & 7 intersect today as his home until his death five years later from pneumonia contracted while serving with Ulysses S Grant's army during its ill-fated advance into Georgia over Christmas Eve 1863. Crossville was founded in 1819 by John and Ann White. The town grew rapidly due to the production of cotton, which was a valuable commodity at the time. In 1837, Crossville became a part of the new Cumberland County and was renamed Crossville Township. In 1861, Crossville became an independent city when it seceded from Cumberland County. The city's first mayor was James Maitland. In 1865, Crossville became part of the newly created Tennessee Valley Authority and itsfirst president was Oscar W. Newmark. The city experienced several financial difficulties during the late 1920s and 1930s, but it regained its former prosperity during World War II as a major defense center in the region.
