The Crossville Air Force Base, located in Crossville, Tennessee is home to the Tennessee Air National Guard's 156th Airlift Wing. The wing provides airlift support for the military and civilian communities in the region. In fiscal year 2016, the wing transported more than 168,000 passengers and cargo across its boundaries. The air wing was established on July 1, 1947 as part of Project Paperclip. Out of necessity, then-President Harry S Truman authorized the deployment of surplus American military aircraft to develop a United States air force that could respond effectively to any foreign threat. The 156th Airlift Wing was born from this need. Since its establishment, the Wing has been responsible for providing combatant commander with access to transport capabilities essential to their mission; deploying vital medical supplies and personnel; conducting aerial refueling operations; evacuating residents during natural disasters; and acting as an operating base for other coalition agencies participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Afghanistan.[1] In Fiscal Year 2017, the 157th Airlift Wing will join Crossville AFB as part of a major expansion announced by Governor Haslam in October 2015. This new wing will provide increased resources for traffic management, weather reconnaissance and emergency response activities within the local community[2]. With this expansion comes an increase in workloads on all facets of the 158th Airlift Wing which currently provides airborne transportation services for over 350 Military members who are stationed at Crossville AFB[3].

The Crossville Volunteer Fire Department was activated on October 12, 1911. The department was originally organized as a volunteer battalion and served an area stretching from the city of Crossville to the Nashville suburb of Lebanon. In 1916, the department became a regiment and served in World War I. In 1922, the Crossville Volunteer Fire Department became an all-volunteer brigade and its mission became to provide fire protection for citizens within a five-mile radius of the city limits. The brigade also served as an auxiliaries to other local departments when required. On July 1, 1954, theCrossville Volunteer Fire Department became part of the Tennessee National Guard when it was activated as part of Defense Act No. 2 of 1955. The unit has been constantly expandable since then and currently serves with distinction in both state/national guard duty and world events including support for Operation Neptune's Spear during Desert Storm in 1991 On January 15th, 2006,Crossville VolunteerFireDepartment celebrated its centennial anniversary by hosting "A Night With Our Stars" at the Donelson Ballroom at Vanderbilt University in Nashville which featured luminaries such as country singers Hank Snow and Merle Haggard along with firefighters from across Tennessee performing originalfirefighter songs written specifically for this event honoring our history
Crossville is a small town in the state of Tennessee. The population was 3,878 as of the 2010 census. Crossville is located in Williamson County. The elevation is 1,682 feet (533 m). The community was founded in 1825 by John and Sarah Beecham. Crossville was named for General Sam Houston, who fought against Mexican forces during the Mexican-American War. The Beechams were farmers and their home soon became a stop on stagecoach routes between Nashville and Memphis. In 1868, they built a new cotton gin to process their cotton crop. They also developed a Panic Room to deal with financial troubles during the 1870s depression. In 1900, entrepreneur Johnnie Weaver bought land near Crossville and began developing it into a resort town known today as Weaver Park. He offered fishing, swimming, golfing, hiking and horseback riding trails as well as an amusement park that included water parks, batting cages and a racing track. By 1910, Weaver had built more than 20 homes including several thousand square feet (100 m2) of living space for his guests along with two hotels – one for Weaver himself and one for his guests’ families –plus dozens of other businesses such as restaurants and stores. By 1920 there were over 100 residences; 8 hotels; 12 bathing beaches; 6 tennis courts; 2 ball fields; 4 golf courses; 16 miles (26 km) of bike paths/races/tracks; 5 miles (8 km) of paved roads serviced by 10ivery barns; 4 grocery stores; 2 post office buildings.; 2 mills that produced flour and258 jobs in 1951 Weaver Park closed its doors in 1966 but reopened under name “Crossville Landing” later that year about 15 minutes outside of Crossville on US 191 Business across from Walmart . This incarnation housed several local churches until it closed again in 2019 after decades of neglect being purchased by developers who are trying to reuse it for housing . In 2018 ,Crossville will be celebrating its centenary with many events throughout the year
The United States Air Force deployed gift history throughout World War II. The first deployment was in 1941 with the deploying of the USS Lexington (CV-6) to convoy supplies to Great Britain. The second deployment was in 1945 with the deploy of the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) to deliver gifts and other items to various allies and prisoners of war. Gifts were also sent during deployments in 1948, 1951, 1953, 1956 and 1960. In 1959, a new shipment system was instituted which allowed for air force personnel to send parcels directly from their duty stations in Europe or Japan without having to go through military postal service. This system continued until 1990 whenpackages became too large for regular mail carriers to handle. During this time, packages were often delivered by special forces units or RAF helicopter pilots who would drop them off at strategic points around Britain. In 2003, a new shipment system called "GiftShip" was implemented which allowed for more personalized gifts to be sent through the United States Postal Service. This system is still in use today and has resulted in many unique and memorable gift history moments. Some of the most famous GiftShip events include: The flyover of Tokyo Tower by U2 on July 15th, 2006; sending Christmas presents inside Fort Knox KY on December 12th, 2009; sending Valentine's Day cards from Dover AFB Delaware on February 14th, 2010; and allowing guests at Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony to send him a personalized gift on January 20th, 2011!

Crossville is a town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Crossville was John Smith who arrived in 1786. In 1818, James Goodloe founded the village of Caldwell and named it after his friend and father-in-law Colonel Robert Caldwell (1763-1847). Crossville's first post office opened on October 16, 1824. The town's first school was built in 1829 by Mr. Wickhams. Agrarian farmers began to arrive in Crossville about 1830 and started to grow raising cotton and corn for market; this led to the development of a large livestock market that continued until after World War II when automobiles took over as the main means of transportation. In 1865, two brothers named O'Neill purchased land east of Crossville from Major General William Tilton Stephenson for $10 per acre ($140 per square mile). They founded their own small town called Newton with 400 residents where they raised crops and conducted sheepherding operations until 1889 when they sold all their land except 10 acres to George Witherspoon for $1 per acre ($16 per square mile). ThereafterCrossville became an agricultural center with several businesses conducting production activities such as fertilizer manufacturing, chicken farming, cattle ranching, milling coal and rice; these activities were gradually replaced by light industrial development starting around the late 1960s when local manufacturers closed down due to increased competition from overseas rivals. This change has resulted in a loss of community identity which has been compounded by successive waves of suburban growth within the city limits ever since; however there are still some residual elements that contribute to unique aspects of life here including a strong sense of community spirit among its citizens as well as some traditions that have endured over time like political bribery being outlawed in 1984 following an investigation into corruption within governmental circles).
