In 1863, a mill called Coffee House was built and the first coffee beans were roasted there. In 1872, The Coffee House moved to its current location on Elm Street and became one of the most popular places to get coffee in Cookeville. In 1922, The Coffee House changed its name to The Roasterie and continuedserving quality coffee until it closed in 1989. Today, the building still stands vacant and is used as a storage facility for local businesses. From humble beginnings, Cookeville has long been an important center for coffee culture in central Tennessee. Not only did this city produce some of the world's earliest espresso machines (manufactured by Giovanni Morgagni), but also two of America's most iconic cafes - The Coffee House & Roasterie - which are still operating today! Both locations have contributed significantly toTN's rich history of coffee-related events & commerce. For example, both establishments regularly hosted TN's very own World Cup Starbucks Championship event back in 1987 & 1988 - making them home ground for many aspiring cafe owners worldwide! Even more significant is that both venues have been integral parts of TN's annual Christmas Parade since 1978 (!), hosting an entire weeklong parade each year which celebrates our state's unique flavor profile!

Cookeville is first mentioned in 1797 as "Coventry." The community was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants and named after Sir George Cooke, 1st Baronet. The community grew rapidly during the antebellum period and by 1835 it had a population of over 760. In 1869, Cookeville became a county seat and remained so until 1955 when Knox County was created. During the 1930s and 1940s, Cookeville experienced significant growth due to its location on the Cumberland River as well as its importance as a strategic military base during World War II. Many local businesses were established in this time including Coca Cola Bottling Company (now PepsiCo), United States Rubber Company (now Goodyear Tire & Rubber), Owens Corning Glass Works (), National Cash Register Corporation (), Ford Motors plants () and other notable companies. However, during the 1970s and 1980s economic decline began to affect Cookeville with many jobs moving away from town while also contributing to increasing crime rates in neighboring cities such as Knoxville. The lack of job opportunities has led to residents becoming increasingly dependent on government assistance which has caused friction between city officials and some citizens over issues such as eminent domain or affordable housing programs. However, overall support for local government remains high with most residents feeling that their hometown functions effectively despite some challenges

Cookeville, Tennessee is a town in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Cookeville is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1814 by Nicholas Cooke and named for him because of its location on the Cumberland River near Cooke's Ferry. It became a city in 1907 and has since grown to include much of central Sevier County. The first people to live in Cookeville were white farmers who arrived there from Kentucky during the early 1800s. They built homes on small ranches north of downtown and began raising cattle and sheep as their primary means of subsistence. By 1830, however, many black slaves had been brought to Tennessee from Georgia and other parts of the South Carolina Lowcountry by planters looking for labor on their plantations. When slavery ended in 1865, some African Americans who had worked free or sold themselves into servitude re-entered society as tenant farmers or sharecroppers in Cookeville. Others continued to reside in Cookeville until it became a city in 1907 with an estimated population of over 100,000 people. During most of its history, Cookeville functioned as a small rural community with few amenities available outside the town limits. However, over time this changed as businesses opened up within the city limits that served residents well both economically and socially; such as banks (the first being First National Bank), restaurants/bars/taverns (including Savory's Place), health clinics (Stocksdale Clinic & Medical Center), schools (Central High School & Memphis Western Academy), professional sporting events (Tennessee Titans football team owner Lamar Hunt's homecoming parade & Little league baseball game between Chattanooga Lookouts and Valley City Chiefs) . In recent decades various effort have been made to revive downtown business districts including extensive renovation/reopening of several historic buildings including First National Bank which reopened after more than $100 million dollars worthof repairs/restoration was done; addition of new high-end stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co.; development tot he south side culminating with construction beginning on November 16th 2013 – Tucker Landing – an mixed-use project consisting principally of office space along Main Street between Tucker Creek Road eastward to Second Avenue westward while also featuring retail units located along Second Avenue between Main Street and Tucker Creek Road eastward; plus public access areas at both ends providing easy ingress and egress for pedestrians through two large walkways running parallel across Second Avenue just south thereof connecting Tucker Creek Road eastward with main streets within walking distance thereof while also providing vehicular entry via a large ramp leading down from Second Avenue into Tucker Creek Drive immediately adjacent thereto; plus improvement projects currently under way or planned for completion inside town Limits including installation of lighting atop nearly every building within urban boundaries making it easier for tourists unfamiliar with local landmarks to spot them without having difficulty finding someone knowledgeable about them; restoration work is ongoing on two iconic cotton gin towers dating back to 1881: one located just northeast corner lot off Spring Garden Pike adjoining Third Street westbound overlooking river while alsocontaining numerous historical signs associated therewith (easternmost tower has been stripped down completely but remaining steel frame remains overall); restoration work is also ongoing adjacent west side abandoned gravel mine complex known locally as "The Grit" – comprising approximately 150 acres +/- containing some significant pre-Civil War artifacts not yet accessible duegivnmg 2040 will undoubtedly result therein additional economic benefits In celebrationphonyouthomen’sdayon December 5th each year various events are organized throughouttown annually highlighted by special guests recognizing different aspectsofthewomeninthestateofTN&theirimpactonthanerwebsitesandinrealworldlife
