Brownsville, Tennessee is a small city located in the Appalachian Mountains of North Tennessee. The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf company was founded here in 1924 by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jorgensen. The business thrived until the early 1990s when it was closed due to natural gas production deregulation and other challenges. Today, the coffee industry is slowly returning to Brownsville with new businesses starting up all over the region. The first coffee beans were grown near Nashville on some of the most polluted land in America, but through hard work and determination, Mr. Jorgensen's team succeeded in moving production from rural Tennessee to a more sustainable location just outside of town in 1922. In 1935, he established his own brand called "Mr. Jorgensen's Roasts." This unique name stuck around for many years until it was bought by Starbucks in 1997-1998. Since its return to Brownsville, coffee has been an important part of local life and economy. There are now several coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance of each other that serve delicious artisan cupcakes made from brown sugar (ormapah) cake mix, rich espresso drinks, or even breakfast burritos! Brownsville, Tennessee is home to one of the most well-known and respected coffee shops in the United States. The shop, beans, and drink are all part of a history that goes back more than 50 years. The Brown's Coffee & Tea Shop is one of the first coffee stores in Brownsville. It was founded by Loren W. Brown in 1951 on Main Street. The store became a national chain with outlets across the United States. In 1978, Loren W. Brown passed away and his son, Rick Brown took over ownership of the store. In 2002, Rick Brown sold the business to his brother-in-law Jeffery Janssen who ran it until 2009 when he sold it to Greg Garrison who ran it until 2018. Greg Garrison also started up The Gilded Cage Coffee House which servesartisan coffee from around the world as well as breakfast and lunch items from their restaurant inside the Gilded Cage Coffee House bar/lounge on West 3rd Street in Brownsville.
Brownsville is a town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The name "Brownsville" comes from Spanish settlement of Brownsville de la Vega in 1795 and it was anglicized as Brownstown during the early 19th century. The first European to visit Brownsville was Antonio Ledezma in 1795 when he went on an exploratory mission to the region around Nashville. He named the site "Vega" after his hometown of Vega del Rey, Spain. A post office called Brownsville was established in 1803, and became a town in 1837. In 1892, brownfields were developed near downtown for manufacturing purposes and by 1900 they numbered more than 2,500 businesses employing over 50% of the population. The local cotton industry declined during World War II but has since recovered with new technology and several large-scale projects such as construction of Interstate 65 through Brownsville which began in 1987 and now forms one of America's most important transportation corridors. Brownsville also features several important cultural attractions including The Jetta Theatre (established 1916), Brown University (1930), Andalusian Museum (1893), and American Folklife Museum (1974). Coffee beans were roasted at home until the early 1800s, when it became necessary to purchase beans from commercial roasters. As coffee began to be consumed more as a necessity than a luxury, small-scale roasters started to form throughout the country. In 1915, Roasting Company #1 was founded in New Orleans by Julius Caesar Schwartz and his brother Samuel. They developed what would become the most well-known and popular style of French press coffee - a bagel with cream and sugar on top. After World War II, several small companies went bankrupt which led to increased demand forartisan coffees from consumers who now could purchase them directly from farmers or retailers. Today, artisanal coffees are still enjoyed by many people all over the world due to their unique flavor profiles and high quality standards. Some of the most famous artisanal coffees include Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Colombian Antillas, Kenyan Maku Lao Kippa, Arabica Brazilian Robusta and Sumatra Bali Kopi Selatan (SBK). Each individual roast is handpicked with care by skilled brewers who strive for perfectionism when making their Coffees’ every batch.

Brownsville is a town in Butler County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 7,371 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Brownsville was founded in 1831 by Captain John Brown and his family. Brownsville became a city in 1907 and organized as a municipality in 1930. In 1969, Brownsville merged with neighboring Chattanooga to form the current city of Chattanooga. The community of Brownsville was located on the banks of the Cumberland River southeast of downtown Knoxville
The Brownsville, Tennessee community was founded in 1814. The town was named for General James Caldwell, who led the American forces during the Mexican War. The first settler in Brownsville were two brothers, Isaac and Solomon Brown. They started a small farm on the banks of the Trinity River. In 1825, they moved to what is now known as downtown Brownsville and began to build a trading post. In 1830, they married Anna Maria Waddell and their first child was born in that year. Jens Fritsch purchased the business from Isaac Brown in 1836 and continued to operate it until his death in 1840. In 1861, Confederate troops burned down the trading post and all of the buildings within it. The town quickly emptied as many people fled to Mexico or other parts of Texas because of the war. By 1865, most of Brownsville had been destroyed by fire or battle damage. However, some structures remained including the courthouse which was rebuilt in 1870-73 following a severe fire that destroyed part of downtown Houston Heights). The town re-populated after its abandonment but never regained its former prosperity; nevertheless, it is still considered an important cultural center for Brownsville residents today.
