Air Force gift history in Brownsville, Tennessee began with the induction of the 1st Squadron, 27th Fighter Group into the Air Force on July 15, 1942. The squadron was activated at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and flew Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft. In 1944, during World War II, the squadron was redesignated as the 3rd Fighter Group and participated in combat operations against Nazi Germany. The group disbanded in 1945 and its aircraft were returned to civilian ownership. In 1947, when air force regulations changed and a new wing was organized, the 3rd Fighter Group re-activated at Randolph AFB as part of it. It operated F-86 Sabre fighters until 1959 when it replaced them with F-106 Delta Raptors for operational duty in Southeast Asia against North Vietnam. The group deployed again to Southeast Asia in 1969–1970 as part of Operation Rolling Thunder which targeted Vietnamese military and infrastructure targets. When hostilities ceased in 1973, elements of the 3FG returned home to Randolph AFB where they continued to monitor South Vietnamese airspace until 1978 when they moved onto Davis-Monthan AFB Tucson Arizona to become an element of Tactical Air Command's (TAC) 5th Air Division "The Eagle's Nest". In 1983–1984 3FG relocated back to Brownsville Airport after being transferred from Davis-Monthan AFB TucsonArizona within TAC's 5th ADivision command structure eliminating any potential confusion about their current location since all units reporting directly to then Wing Commander General Merrill A. McPeak at that time assigned headquarters personnel located at Brownsville Airport rather than Tucson Arizona creating a definitive closed unit gift history for this air force unit here in Brownsville Tennessee!

In 1952, President Harry S Truman authorized creation of a separate air force under Secretary of Defense George C Marshall called Strategic Air Command (SAC). With this new organization, bombers were again converted into fighters and strategic bombers were sent to Europe to bomb targets on behalf of NATO while also carrying out nuclear strikes against single enemy nations like North Korea or China. The Cold War ended in 1991 when Saddam Hussein became president of Iraq which led to US involvement in Operation Desert Storm which aimed to remove him from power. Since then, there have been various air forces created within the USAF each with their own specific mission and objectives. Today, there are over 150 Squadron within the USAF that provide aerial support for ground operations worldwide including deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq in addition to numerous other assignments around the world including fixed wing combat aviation Search & Rescue missions as well as providing airborne refueling services during peacetime conflicts or natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes.

Brownsville is a small town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,674 at the 2000 census. The town was established in 1879 by John R. Brown and his family. It is named for Brownsville, Texas, which was the original home of the Browns. The first post office in Brownsville was established on November 10, 1881. In 1912, the name of the post office changed to Brownsville Municipal to reflect its growing importance as a commercial center in the area. In 1915, significant civic improvements were made to Brownsville when it became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and council system. These included construction of a public library and new streets and avenues. As part of Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) efforts to develop agricultural areas within Knox County through land acquisition and irrigation projects during World War II, Brownsville became one of TVA's largest towns located near Nashville-Knox County line. At that time it contained over 4,000 residents along with many businesses and industrial plants associated with various war production programs such as aluminum smelting or munitions manufacturing
The Brownsville, Tennessee community owes its foundation to the Union army during the American Civil War. The Union army was stationed in what is now Brownsville at the time of the war. General Ulysses S. Grant ordered Major General David Dixon to take control of a cavalry brigade and march into Brownsville to protect it from Confederate forces. Dixon's brigade was successful in defending the town and drove off Confederate attacks. The town was named for General John Brown, who fought in the war and died as a result of his wounds received while fighting for the Union side.
