Later that year, Athens hosted its second international coffee conference. This time, they were focused more on marketing and advertising techniques. In 1970, Athens became home to their third international coffee conference. This time, they were specifically interested in espresso brewing methods and equipment development. Since then, there have been many other major events throughout Athens' history associated with the artisan coffee industry - including several craft beer festivals and cupcake days ( respectively).

There is no one definitive answer to this question, as the history of artisan coffee in Athens, Tennessee is intertwined with that of the city itself. Artisan Coffee was first founded in Athens by two brothers, John and Jack Welch. The Welch family ran a small grocery store on Mulberry Street before opening their own coffee shop in 1974. The shop quickly became well-known for its quality roasted beans and delicious pastries. In 1978, John Welch passed away, but his sons continued to run the business until Jack Welch's death in 1990. After Jack's death, his son-in-law took over management of the shop. Under the leadership of Bob Bussell (Bob's Beans), Artisan Coffee continued to grow and develop its unique flavor profile while also expanding its reach into new markets. In 2003, Bob passed away suddenly at age 82; however, his Legacy live on through his ownership of Bob's Beans which continues to roast high quality artisan coffee worldwide.
Athens, Tennessee is a small city located in Minsville County, Tennessee. The population was 2,873 at the 2010 census. Athens is the county seat and largest town in Minsville County. The city is home to two universities- UT Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State University- as well as a variety of businesses and churches. In addition to its downtown area, Athens has several neighborhoods including Canal Winchester, Forest Park/Highlands Ranch, Hermitage Valley, and Westside Village. The history of Athens begins with the arrival of European settlers in 1795. A post office was founded in Athens on December 4th, 1805 by Major John Andrew Cook from Virginia with the name of "Covington." For many years, Athens was known as "Covington's Town". On October 12th, 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant visited Minsville County and pronounced that "Athens" should become "Hartsville". So effective was this proclamation that within one year there had been more than 1,000 changes to the original spelling of the town's namesake! In 1892-1893 a group of German immigrants settled in Athens after arriving on horseback from Wernheim am Rhein (Württemberg). They were known as the Hirschfeld Brothers because they owned a grocery store called Hirschfeld's Hamburgers which operated near Center Street and Broadway (now State Route 517). When World War I started in 1914 hostilities began between Germany and Austria over control of Alsace-Lorraine; consequently many Austrians left their homes to fight for Austria instead of going into hiding like their brethren in Germany who were targeted by Nazi agents for extermination. During World War II much damage was done to downtown Athens during air raids from American B-24 bombers flying over North Africa on May 10th through 13th 1945; however only one building - the old City Hall - total loss occurred due to fire caused by incendiary bombs dropped by American forces on that day! As part of Reconstruction following VE Day ( Victory Over Enemy Troops) Mayor JB Hogan ordered all businesses closed until 7 PM so that citizens could gather together at Fulton Park fora picnic dinner sponsored by Coca Cola Company which had opened up shop eight blocks away across Main Street from City Hall! After several days without food or water available within Downtown Athenians went door to door begging Coca Cola company employees for donations which totaled $1,- 000! Although it seemed impossible some individuals managed to purchase six cases of Coca Cola products each! Mining operations commenced around 1830 when slaves brought coal rich earth downgradient from mountains eastward towards Decatur County but ceased production about 1860 when slavery ended there too. Mining continued until 1971 when all surface mines were abandoned save one at Big Sandy; later this mine reopened as an open pit mine producing coal again beginning operation in 2003. Coal sales continue today at Big Sandy Mine while portions are leased out for quarrying purposes also!
As coffee began to take hold as a popular beverage in many parts of the world, it quickly spread throughout the globe. One of the first places that coffee started being made was in various villages and towns in South America. The earliest evidence of coffee beans being roasted and brewed comes from Ecuador, where early Inca traders discovered some odd looking beans while on their travels. After tasting these beans, they likely brought them back with them to Ecuador where they were roasted and sold as part of fresh produce. The Portuguese exploration of Brazil led to the discovery of new areas rich in natural resources, including coffee. Because Portugal was such an important trading partner for Spain, Spanish explorers also became interested in this valuable commodity. In 1521, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés discovered Brazil's most significant Coffee region – now known as Colombia – while sailing through this area on his voyage along the coast of South America. From here he took over several plantations and shipped large amounts of coffee back to Spain for sale. Eventually Dutch sailors came across Brazilian ports and began shipping Coffee back home to Holland starting around 1630s. This allowed Dutch traders to become very well-known for their excellent quality Coffee beans all over Europe due to its high price tag (at that time it was about 1/6th the price of Arabic Coffee). As a result, Dutch Coffee became a major trade item for both European countries and helped lay the groundwork for what would later become known as Dutch Coffee culture. Throughout much of Africa there was also growing interest in Coffee because it had been used by certain cultures for centuries as a source of energy or medicinal purposes. For example, The Idi Amin regime in Uganda used ground Java Bean oil (made from wild bean) mixed with Witch Hazel leaves and other spices to treat many diseases including malaria when available; however current research indicates that there is no real health benefit present from consuming Java Bean oil today! Additionally, Arab traders frequently visited sub-Saharan Africa during this period and purchased huge amounts of local Beans which they would grind intocoffee before exporting back home!

Athens, Tennessee was chartered in 1819 as a town by the brothers Samuel and Ebenezer Maxwell. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the banks of the Cumberland River and its access to trade with Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee. In 1838, Athens became the capital of the Confederate States of America following their victory over Union forces at Battle of Franklin. The city declined during the war but recovered after it ended. In 1865, Athens became the temporary seat of government for Tennessee until Nashville was elected as the new state capital. In 1971, Athens was named an NCAA Division I-AA city by vote of its city council. The city is home to multiple colleges and universities including Tennessean University, Middle Tennessee State University, and Vanderbilt University.
