Coffee has been present in Sioux Falls for over 100 years. The first coffee shop opened in 1887 and the city's first grocery store, the Dakota City Grocery, was open in 1912. Coffee beans were grown and roasted on the property of what is now the Sioux Falls School District until 1967. The first cafe in Sioux Falls was called "The Dutchman" because it was located at 5th and Main Streets. It served German-American customers who brought their coffee to work. In 1915, The Dutchman became known as The Star-Keeper because it offered a free cup of coffee to anyone who brought a penny or more to the store. In 1935, The Star-Keeper moved to its current location at 14th Street and Broadway Avenue after being displaced by another cafe that had opened on 15th Street two blocks away. After World War II, many businesses closed due to rationing of materials needed for postwar reconstruction. However, The Star-Keeper continued serving coffee throughout the war years until it closed again in 1951 when ownership changed hands multiple times. In 1971, Bob's Café opened up on 9th Avenue near where today's Rheinhardt Elementary School is located. At that time, Bob's Café was one of only a few cafes remaining open during wartime shortages caused by missile early Warning systems which swept across America during that era (the warning system beeped constantly). Despite not having any wi fi or air conditioning back then (Bob's Cafe didn't even have shelves), the café continued serving hot drinks and pastries until 1996 when it burned down; however, according to local legend, part of the restaurant caught fire while someone was eating ice cream from a truck parked outside and started burning instead! After Bob's Cafe went out of business, Starbucks began operating next door within spitting distance of both schools until they vacated their space in 2007 when they built their own school district headquarters nearby. Starbucks has since reopens each morning soon after sunrise with fresh brewed coffee!

The growth continued through mergers and acquisitions until 2003 when United States Bankruptcy Court decided that all privately owned higher education organizations must be public under section 1021 of the United States Constitution due to concerns about privatization causingustrainer closures and job losses across much rural America On October 15th 2004 USDHHS announced that they were closing all private hospitals including USDHHS Medical Center effective November 1st 2004 before any other changes were made to their operations or patient care schedule which caused great disruption not just for patients treated there but also those who relied on Medicaid patients who were no longer able to see their doctors or receive quality care because USDHHS had taken away their insurance A group led by then Mayor Don Guthrie formed To Save Our Hospitality Inc which successfully lobbied USDHHS officials until finally on May 30th 2009USDHHS allowed private hospital owners back onto their properties within limits so long as they agreed not to close any more clinics or reduce services without prior approval from USDHHS yet again disrupting patient care schedules and treatment options for many thousands of people

The area now comprising Sioux Falls was first settled by the Chippewa Indians in 1868. The city was founded on November 26, 1886 by Colonel John S. Reynolds and his wife Emma Reynolds as a result of the consolidation of two other towns: Aberdeen (now Rapid City) and Brookings (later Spearfish). Sioux Falls became an incorporated town on January 1, 1907. On May 15, 1957, it changed its name to Sioux Falls–Fort Worth to honor Fort Worth businessman A. F. "Fritz" Sealey who had given $10,000 for the promotion of economic development within Douglas County and for the improvement of Sioux Falls' infrastructure.
