Huron was founded in 1881 by John F. Huron and his wife, Anna C. Huron. The town was named after the Ottawa River which flows through the town. In 1911, the townsite was laid out into blocks with a two-block square block system. The first building in the town was a log cabin that served as the courthouse until it burned down in 1906. The first store in Huron opened its doors on Main Street in 1886. A post office was established at Huron in 1895 and remained open until 1955.
