The Huron Coffee Businessmen's Club was founded in 1916 by a group of coffee growers and merchants in the town of Huron, South Dakota. The club was designed to help promote and develop the coffee industry in the area. The first meeting of the club was held on October 3, 1916. Theclub promoted coffee as a source of protein and healthy fats, as well as providing an excellent way to start or end a day's work. It also developed marketing strategies to increase sales for its products. In addition,theclub educated its members about coffee culture and how it could be used within their individual businesses. In 1979, the club merged with another local business organization, the Sioux City Coffee Merchants Association (SCCMA). This merger allowed SCCMA to become more involved in promoting coffee within South Dakota and beyond. SCCMA continues to promote coffee through its member organizations throughout the state today.
As an artisan coffee roaster, I enjoy experimenting with different beans and roast methods. I believe that good coffee is something that can be made from any type of bean, and I try to find the best flavor for each customer. My roast methods include Direct Roasting, ShadeRoasting, and Cold Caramel Roasting. These techniques allow me to get a complex flavor profile without using high-end equipment or beans. Direct Roasting refers to when the coffee is roasted directly in the beans rather than through a roaster like Bobrothers or Peet’s. This process results in a darker roast with a more bitter taste. shade roasting involves exposing the beans to light before they are roasted so that they develop some color and bitterness. This technique allows you to get a more subtle flavor profile while still getting some caffeine and other nutrients into your coffee. cold caramel roasting involves combining chlorogenic acid (a natural caramellanoid) with ice cream or chocolate milk before brewing so that it creates a sweet/caramel-like flavor profile in your coffee!

The area now known as South Dakota was first inhabited by the Sioux tribe, who were forced to cede their land to the United States in 1871. In 1907, the Lakota Tribe also ceded their land to the United States, making South Dakota the only state in America that is both Native American and U.S. Territory. Today, there are over 2 million Sioux people living in South Dakota and its surrounding areas. There are many businesses and cultural traditions that continue to be perpetuated among these tribes, such as smoking tobacco cigarettes and using traditional dance and song performances as entertainment. The Sioux Nation also participates in a number of sports events, including football (the National Football League), hockey (the National Hockey League), and basketball (the NBA). Additionally, the Sioux Nation has developed a strong economy thanks to agricultural production and tourism activities. South Dakota is home to a wide variety of wildlife including Elk, Bears, Dallas bulls, prairies bison, bald eagles, ruminants (eastern whites) and numerous other species of animals. These animals provide important food for tribes throughout the year as well as various goods that are used for trade or ceremonial purposes. One of the most famous Wildlife experiences available within South Dakota is traveling through Black Hills National Park which offers stunning views of Mount Rushmore national monument from all directions!
The history of artisan coffee begins with the early days of coffee brewing. Coffee was first brewed by farmers in Africa and Asia for their own use. In 15th century Europe, brewers began to roast their own beans using small-scale methods. The first true artisanal coffees were created in France in the 16th century. These roasters used a variety of beans and methods to produce high quality coffee that was sold direct to consumers. Throughout the 18th century, coffee cultivation increased in Java and other parts of Indonesia. Coffee became an important factor in Dutch trade and culture, as well as aiding the development of modern Dutch architecture and engineering. By 1800, Dutch coffee houses had become famous throughout Europe for their delicious cup of Joe. In 1847, Frenchman Charles Schultz founded his own company, Schultz Coffee Company, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The company soon became known for its unique roast styles—including French press (which is still popular today), Sumatran (a Blend variant), Robusta (light roast), and Breakfast Stout (dark roast)—and its commitment to ethical practices such as sustainable farming and fair labor practices. Schultz also developed a reputation for being one of the most demanding caffeine addicts on Earth. During World War II, German soldiers captured many American bean farmers who were working on Manhattan Project projects at Columbia University’s Laboratory School of Genetics & Technology (LST). Afterward, these Allied POWs were used to produce some of America’s most distinguished ikan bilis—coffee that tasted like tea but was stronger than regular tea—from Latin beans imported from Java. Americans responded favorably to this taste difference; accordingly, ikan bilis became associated with English-speaking countries during wartime period while Indonesian Ikan Bilis continued to be produced under Japanese rule until 1945. ikan bilis are now considered a national cultural heritage item in Indonesia
