It consists of an east-west trending dirt road which runs from its southeastern edge near Dutch Reformed Episcopal Church to its western edge near US Route 19/US Route 74 where it meets SC Highway 258/SC Highway 175; thence west along SC Highway 258 to its eastern edge near Potter's Ferry Rd./Fulton Bridge before turning NW towards downtown Sumter which borders on the cities of Summerdale, Morningside Heights, Spanish Fork and Websterville. It has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters with average monthly temperatures reaching 82-86 degrees F (27-30 degrees C). There are numerous types of trees including oaks, hickories, cottonwoods and red cedar as well as many flower species such as blue jessamine, iris and magnolia. Sumter was founded in 1819 by General James Longstreet and Colonel John C.B. Stuart as a small town on the banks of the Savannah River in what is now Georgia.
