The Navy has been deploying gifts to its deployed forces for years now. Gifts have ranged from small items like toothpaste to larger items like boats and missiles. Some of the more well-known gifts include the USS Constitution, which was gifted to South Carolina in 1912, and the USS George Washington, which was gifted to South Carolina in 1945. As a military community, we are often touched by how our service members support our country. We also appreciate the culture that our military offers when it comes to giving back. When it comes to giving back through gift giving, the Navy is no different. The GIFT HISTORY project is an ongoing effort that celebrates this culture and helps connect servicemembers with those who have helped make America great. Since 1992, GIFT HISTORY has honored naval reservists and their families by sending them select items from across the Naval Service’s history as well as selected gifts from other countries’ militaries. This year’s selection includes both American and international items such as radios, tools kits and even uniforms! This year’s event will take place on Saturday, October 20th at 10am at NAS Spartanburg (just south of downtown). In addition to viewing all of this year’s gift selections as well as taking home a few goodies yourself – be sure to join us for a day filled with smiles and appreciation!
It is no secret that the United States Navy has a strong relationship with its allies. This is especially true during peacetime, when both navies cooperate closely to carry out missions in support of common interests. In times of crisis, however, this cooperation takes on a different form. The United States Navy deploys gifts to its partners in order to show our appreciation for their contributions. These gifts can be anything from small items such as balls or books to large items like warships or submarines. Each navy has its own unique way of displaying its gratitude and we are proud to have relationships with some of the world’s most powerful navies. One particular navy that consistently puts a positive spin on military deployments is the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The RAN is one of the few militaries in the world that does not field any combat troops and instead focuses on providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. This focus has led them to develop a close relationship with the US military which began in 2001 when then-Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Rickover presented Australia's first naval vessel, HMAS Canberra, at an American shipyard in Rhode Island. Since then they have developed many bilateral relations including joint exercises and visits by high-ranking officials such as Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Defense Minister Kevin Rudd. In addition, they frequently send ships back into service through donation drives which helps keep America's maritime capabilities open while also helping contribute to global peace and security. When it comes time for their annual Christmas present for American servicemen and women who have sacrificed so much for our country, the RAN always goes above and beyond what is expected! They create interesting gift baskets filled with goodies such as cigarettes, chocolate bars, hats/caps etc., all designed specifically for US sailors stationed abroad! Their efforts go far beyond just giving presents; they truly understand how important it is for servicemen and women to know that their loved ones are taken care of no matter what happens on Earth!

Spartanburg is a city in the U.S. state of South Carolina and the county seat of Spartanburg County. The population was 97,858 as of the 2010 census. Spartanburg is located on the Tennessee River, about 30 miles (48 km) south of Knoxville and 100 miles (160 km) west of Atlanta. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Spartanburg County were white Methodist Episcopal missionaries who arrived in 1798. They built a log cabin on an island in the Tennessee River, which they named Mount Pleasant after their parish home in London, England. The town began to grow rapidly due to its strategic location at the mouth of Smiths Creek and access to navigable rivers. In 1814, Confederate General Braxton Bragg attacked Fort Sumter near here while supplies were being transported downriver from Charleston; this event helped spur development in nearby Bladenboro and Greeneville. The Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) maintains a large collection of navy deployed gift history. This history includes items from before the United States Navy was founded on April 6, 1775, to the present day. The collection also contains memorabilia and other objects related to the military and maritime aspects of naval service. Some of the earliest navy deployments were during World War I when the United States joined forces with Great Britain and France in order to oppose Germany. Between 1917 and 1919, the United States navies operated out of Bermuda, Pearl Harbor, Hong Kong, Samoa and French Guiana. During World War II, America's involvement began with its entry into war on December 7th 1941. In 1942-1945 American warships served in many different theaters around the world including Mediterranean Sea; Pacific Ocean; South Atlantic; North Atlantic; Caribbean Sea as well as off Japanese coasts. In 1957-1958, USS Constitution Museum (NHC# NH 9663) was donated by Rear Admiral Halsey Cates to become part of Naval History Division at NMHHC where it currently resides. The museum is open daily except Mondays which are closed for maintenance purposes. The first ship in this collection was USS Constitution Museum (NHC# NH 9663). It belonged to then Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Donald Lutz who manned her from February 1945 until she was decommissioned on October 26th 1946 because she had not been able to meet wartime Standards set by Navy Department regulations at that time call for ships carrying more than fifty passengers maximum without any crew members aboard . The next ship added to this collection was USS Enterprise Museum (NHC# NH 9859), which belonged to then Ensign James Whelan who manned her from November 1st 1944 until she broke down along with all three other boats of his Squadron while aboardship transportYING San Francisco Bay area late night on December 15th 1944 after taking part in Operation Neptune Spear ployingto supply Royal Marines ashore at Dieppe beach Normandy France duringOperation Overlord . She arrived back at Norfolk Virginia early morning on January 3rd 1945 after spending 10 days unsupported at sea enroute from Portsmouth England via Gibraltar Spain convoying towboats HMS Dorsetshire(AGS 12)and HMS Foreskin(GDS 8) both operating out of Grosse Ile de la Réunion Island , arriving safelyat Hampton Roads Virginia early morningof January 11th 1945 after making a long journey across dangerous ocean waters
