The shop has been around since 1997 and offers a wide variety of coffee products including espresso drinks, pour-overs, and macchiatos. The origins of The Roastery on Broad Street can be traced back to 1997 when two friends decided to open their own business together. At that time, there was no such thing as artisan coffee shop etiquette or standards. So they set out to create an experience that was different from any other store in town. The first coffee shop in Spartanburg was founded in 1916 by James E. Maynard and his wife Nesta. The business operated for a few years before moving to their current location on West Main Street. In the early 1920s, Spartanburg's coffee industry had begun to grow rapidly thanks to the importation of beans from Europe. By 1924, there were six commercial coffee shops in the city and several cafes serving iced coffee and pastries. The popularity of espresso-based beverages soon became common among Spartanburgians, and by 1933, two dozen businesses were operating within walking distance of downtown. In 1938, Spartanburg's first grocery store opened up and began selling coffee products including roasts, filters and pods. By 1949, there were twenty-six businesses in the city with an average weekday payroll of $10 per employee. Coffee consumption increased significantly during the late 1940s and 1950s as Spartanburg become known as a center for caffeine addiction. The number of businesses grew even more during the 1960s when new restaurants began opening up throughout town offering java addicts access to high-quality roasted beans directly from European roasters. Businesses increased again during the 1970s as new technologies such as home brewers made it easier for customers to purchase fresh roasted coffee every day from local roasters at home

As coffee beans were first cultivated and enjoyed by humans, they were also traded and used as currency. Coffee was first roasted in the Middle East, where it was known as bittera. The coffee bean was then brought to Europe and Africa where it became popular. Today, coffee is enjoyed all over the world, including in many developing countries. The coffee industry began to grow during the 18th century when African slaves were brought to America with seeds from left-over coffee plants in Java. Coffee became a valuable commodity due to its low cost of production—hence the name “artisanal” for this type of coffee. The early American colonists used Indian grown beans for their English Mocambo blend that they brewed at home before trading with European buyers. Over time, however, Europeans developed their own methods for roasting and brewing coffee which led to a decline in artisanal produce (Atkinson 1989). However, there are some exceptions to this trend; some regions still enjoy high quality artisanal coffees such as Peru and Indonesia which are typically roasted using natural flavors or virgin oils rather than chemical solvents (Fernandez 2006). Additionally, recent efforts have been made by small farmers around the world who continue to roast their own coffees in small batches using traditional techniques (Miller & Brewer 2004). As more people learn about how important good-quality artisanal coffees are, interest in these products has begun increasing again throughout the world!

The coffee industry has been around for over a hundred years, and there are many different types of coffee beans. There are two main types of coffee: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica beans are smaller and more bitter, while Robusta beans are larger and have a stronger flavor.

The Spartanburg area was first settled in 1785 by the English colonists. The town was named for General James Darlington, who fought in the American Revolution and later served as governor of South Carolina. The town became a slaveholding center during the 1800s, and it is one of the few remaining slaveholding towns in America. In 1865, Confederate forces retreated from South Carolina after battle at Appomattox Court House. The town quickly lost its importance to the south and declined until the 1990s when it regained some popularity as a tourist destination.

Spartanburg began as an agricultural town in 1837. It became a city in 1865, and its location on the Ashley River made it a commercial center. The city was renamed Spartanburg after General John C.Lee in 1887.
