At first glance this might not have been such an unusual decision – after all, much larger towns like Columbia or Charleston were already well-established locales – but it did set off some controversy among residents about who should lead this fledgling county government. Ultimately, it wasn’t long before decisions were made to keep Rockhill status quo because there simply wasn’t enough space available at present day Mount Pleasant for another courthouse or other public buildings. However, despite being headquartered in Spartanburg County rather than downtownSC (the location then occupied by Columbia), RockHill continued to enjoy considerable prosperity thanks largely to its strategic location on major river crossings along both I-85 (which ran through town) and US Highway 1 (which passed through south central SC). These crossroads gave rise to nickname “The Crossroads Of America” because so many important shipping lanes passed through these areas during pioneer days! This prosperity notwithstanding though, by 1830 most inhabitants living within 2 miles (3 kilometers) radius of either city center were self-sufficient farmers or fishermen who supplemented their income with small businesses dealing in goods exported down I-85 or US Highway 1; manufacturing played only a minor role hereabouts until after World War II when large quantities of military hardware began flowing through town portals onto I-85/US Highway 1 assembly lines! All told however Census data indicates that population growth rates between 1830 & 2010 have been faster than linear growth rates throughout much older portions o(South Carolina!) thus demonstrating just how dynamic our regional fabric has become since those earliest days!
