In November 1862, General Robert Ewell ordered Company F (1st Battalion) to march south from Greenville to join up with other Union regiments near Petersburg. However, this order never arrived and upon arrival at Petersburg company members found themselves instead fighting against Confederate forces under Lt.-Colonel Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. The battalion eventually rejoined General Robert Ewell’s army after crossing overland from North Carolina to Virginia on February 15th 1863 and relieved Companies A (2nd Battalion) and C (3rd Battalion) of that units during Pope’s Campaign in March 1863 which resulted in Vicksburg being taken by Union forces under Major-General Ulysses S Grant and then surrendered on April 9th 1863. After Vicksburg was captured, many soldiers within Company E decided to return home rather than fight another war overseas; however some members did remain in service until 1865 when their term expired or they were discharged because of illness or injury). Rock Hill is a small town located in the state of South Carolina. It is home to a population of around 9,000 people and it is the county seat for Spartanburg County. The town was founded in 1821 by settlers from North Carolina. Rock Hill has been called the "Gateway to the Lowcountry" because of its location on the lower Pee Dee River. In 1831, Colonel John Rankin donated land to help support the new community, which he named "Rock Hill." The first school in Rock Hill opened its doors in September of that year. It was an elementary school run by parents who had children working on farms nearby. In 1840, a second school building was built; this time it became an all-girls institution known as Carver School. A third school building followed in 1845; this time it became known as Beechwood School after two local landowners donated land for that purpose. A fourth school building (known as East High School) opened its doors in 1850; this time it served both students and staff members alike until 1906 when it became co-ed with West High School). During these years, rock hill saw growth both commercially and academically: by 1860 there were ten businesses operating within the community while eighteen students had graduated from high school!
