The history of shooting in Port Royal, South Carolina dates back to the early 1800s. The town was founded by white settlers in 1795, and soon became a popular location for hunting and shooting. In 1836, the first shotgun factory was built in the town, and over time, other firearms manufacturing businesses were established. Today, Port Royal is home to a number of gun dealers and shooting ranges, as well as several annual events that celebrate its Shooting Heritage Month. One of the earliest shooters in PortRoyal was Captain John Pecan, who operated a weapons store and shot competitively from his home until his death in 1812. Other early shooters include Captain Amos Hemenway (1793-1868), Major General James Wilkinson (1799-1865), Colonel Benjamin Hawkins (1800-1875), Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Drake (1800-1882) and Commodore David Dixon (1790-1864). AsPort Royal shifted from an agricultural town to a commercial center during the late 1800s,gunnery began to become an important part of local society. Gunsmiths began providing quality firearms for use by local citizens and merchants. During World War II, Port Royal served as one of two naval ports serving Charleston County. Port Royal (formerly Charleston) is a town in South Carolina, United States. It was founded by English colonists in 1670 as the new capital of the colony of South Carolina after its capture from Spanish control. The town grew rapidly during the 18th century, becoming an important shipping and trade center. After the American Revolution, Port Royal was part of British Columbia until it became independent in 1871. In 1929, it became part of South Carolina again when its parent state split. As of 2019, Port Royal is the largest city in both South Carolina and British Columbia. The first Europeans to visit what is now Port Royal were Giovanni da Verrazzano and his group on January 14, 1524. Captain John Smith sailed into Charleston Harbor on October 7, 1730., naming it "New Town" after his own home town at Woolwich in Hampshire England where he had been born three years earlier. At that time there were only about 100 white people living in Charleston Harbor; within a few years the population had grown to over 8000 with many more coming from other parts of Scotland and Ireland who had emigrated for religious reasons or because they needed work opportunities inland. In 1670 English colonists founded what would become Port Royal as their new capital following their victory over Spanish forces at Monck's Landing near present-day Savannah Georgia. The settlement quickly grew due to its location at one of the leading trading points between Britain and America thanks to its strategic position on Hilton Head Island just off Interstate 95 south of Jacksonville Florida which made it easy for ships to enter or leave port without having to navigate through heavy weather conditions or treacherous shoals offshore. By 1700, major warehouses had been built along Broad Street just east of downtown and began processing goods destined for North America such as cotton, tobacco and sugar cane from Africa before being unloaded on Hilton Head Island for shipment back across the Atlantic Ocean back to Europe or Asia via loading docks at Fort Moultrie on Sullivan’s Isle outside Savannah Georgia while customs inspectors looked on ensuring quality control before being sent offloaded onto smaller boats moored nearby ready for transport back inland by ferry back downriver towards Savannah Georgia where they could be processed further before being delivered directly into European markets like Amsterdam Spain Liverpool etc...This system continued unchanged until 1795 when a new harborage was constructed adjacent to present day Elizabeth City County which saw increased traffic due largely to increased production by Methodist missionaries working out of what would later become known as Mount Pleasant Hospital which functioned both as a hospital/emergency response center during firesstorms as well as providing housing and education for local Indians.. There have been numerous attempts over time by various groups including Confederate veterans activist group Black Veterans For Education (BVE) since 1984 To reestablish contact with descendantsliving scattered around various points throughout United States Of America especially those living near Mount Pleasant Hospital property so that descendants may learn more about their ancestors' story we took our case all up with US District Court judge James Hardee...We believe this project not only provides historical justice but also educates our children about today's social issues facing black Americans across multiple states... port royal chronicles

In 1814, during the American Civil War, Port Royal was burned to the ground by Confederate artillery. The town never recovered and slowly died off until it was abandoned in the early 20th century.
