The military has a long and colorful history in Orangeburg, South Carolina. From the Revolutionary War to present day, the military has been a part of our city’s history for many years. One of the earliest examples of military deployment in Orangeburg was during the American Revolution. The town was founded by white settlers in 1775 and saw service as part of the Continental Army. In 1802, Orangeburg became a post office and saw increased activity from soldiers stationed there. During World War II, local businesses helped provide materials and services to troops stationed in the area. One such business was Biltmore Insurance Company, which donated many items such as uniforms and other equipment to servicemen. In 1951, Orangeburg became home to Fort Pickens National Monument - one of several national monuments located in South Carolina during that time period. Since then, there have been numerous deployments by our military; both small (e.g., unit deployments) and large (e.g., wars fought abroad). Some famous residents who have served in our military include General Douglas MacArthur (USA), Admiral Chester Nimitz (USN), and Vice President Joe Biden (USA). Our Armed Forces also play an important role here at home, with active duty members garrisoned throughout town including Joint Base Charleston – often providing support for local events/parades. In 2020, we celebrated 50 years since Fort Pickens National Monument opened its doors to all Americans! Orangeburg is a city in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 23,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Richland County. The town of Orangeburg was founded in 1796 by James Fenton and renamed for General Lafayette during the American Revolution. The Charles Pinckney Canal ran through Orangeburg and its successors until 1888 when it was abandoned because of a lack of water. In 1887, Orangeburg voters passed an ordinance establishing a board of education to help promote agriculture and other pursuits within the community. The first school in Orangeburgh opened on September 5th, 1887 with ten students. From 1892-1927, Orangeburgh had two high schools: White Hall High School and Greenville High School. Greenville closed in 1927; White Hall continued operation until 1949. In 1959, after years of petitioning by citizens, the Richland County Board approved plans for a new courthouse complex that would include a jail and three courtrooms which would be used by both Richland County District Court as well as Circuit Court proceedings On October 2nd 1960, Governor Eugene Talmadge dedicated the new courthouse complex which included the jail and three courtrooms to residents of Orangeburg who had fought hard to bring it about. At that time it was one of only two county courthouses in South Carolina (the other being located in Columbia). The building served as both local government center as well as courtroom for all types of criminal prosecutions throughout South Carolina up until 1996 when it became part of then-UpperRichlands Judicial Circuit Supreme Court Building adjacent to then-UpperRichlands Courthouse due to budgetary concerns resulting from redistricting changes following the 1990 Census which resulted in most counties losing their jurisdictional autonomy; however, Orangeburgh still maintains some type or jurisdiction over itscourthouse precinct including maintaining its own police force separate from those governing neighboring counties subject only to state law enforcement authority In January 2006 elections were scheduled for municipal officers including mayor/councilman/etc., but this plan met with opposition from City Councilmen who felt they should have been able to vote on whether or not they wanted representation on City Council despite not living within city limits since 1984

Eager to capitalize on their newfound prestige and power within the foreign community, Americans quickly donated items from their homes and businesses alike to charity organizations across Canada and Europe in order to support their troops fighting abroad. Orange of the United States Army who served under General Andrew Jackson during the American Civil War. In 1907, Orangeburghs first post office opened and remains open to this day. The town's main source of revenue comes from its agricultural sector which includes cotton, corn, soybeans, and rice production. Orangeburg was one of the original thirteen towns located within Charleston County when that county was created in 1792. However, it did not become part of Charleston until after the war for independence had ended in 1865. After being annexed by Charleston on February 14th, 1870, Orangeburgh joined the city limits of Charleston immediately prior to becoming an independent municipality once again on April 7th of that year under then-mayor George W Burrell with just over 1 thousand residents living within its boundaries
