The history of the Orangeburg, South Carolina Army National Guard begins in 1881. The first unit was organized as part of the 1st Infantry Regiment, Confederate States Army. The regiment served from 1861 to 1865 and saw action at Fort Sumter, Bull Run and Monmouth Heights. On July 9th, 1881, the regiment was redesignated as the 2nd Infantry Regiment and re-raised in Orangeburg County. The regiment served until 1931 when it was disbanded. In 1932, a new battalion (the 361st Battalion) was formed in Orangeburg County and deployed to Berlin Germany for service in World War II. After the war ended, the battalion returned home to Orangeburg County and re-formed on October 15th 1946 under command of Colonel James Fenton with Headquarters located at Pickens Barracks #2A. For almost fifty years this battalion has been providing security for military installations throughout South Carolina including Pickens AFB #1B where it currently stationed today. In addition to its primary mission of guarding local installations, 367th Battalion also provides disaster relief support during hurricanes Florence and Michael. The Orangeburg Infantry Regiment was a regiment of the United States Army during the American Civil War. the regiment was organized in 1864 and mustered into service on November 15, 1864. The regiment fought in the Battle of Mansfield Park and at Ringgold Gap. On December 12, 1864, they participated in the Battle of Irmo Creek. They were honorably discharged on May 9, 1865.

The Army has been a part of the American culture since its inception. The first military engagement of the United States was fought in Lexington, Kentucky on April 19, 1775. At that time, the Continental Congress had authorized the arming and training of five regiments of militia to fight for independence from Great Britain. The US government soon became embroiled in a bloody war with Great Britain which lasted for years. In 1812, when America defeated Canada in the War of 1812, the army was increased to ten thousand men and women. After the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), which saw Mexico gain independence from Spain, America acquired additional lands west of Mexico City and needed an army to protect these new possessions. The First Infantry Regiment was mustered into service on July 1, 1861 as part as part of President Abraham Lincoln’s call for volunteers to help garrison federal installations along the Confederate River Valley (now Oklahoma). By 1865 there were over one hundred Regular Army battalions across thirteen states under command of Major General George Meade. In 1870–71, large numbers of African Americans were enlisted in infantry or artillery units throughout the Union army during Reconstruction after reconstruction ended following Brown v Boardman decision (1954). As technology improved and warfare changed with new types and weapons such as air power and armor units became available through World War II what began as small unit deployments transformed into massed formations across all theaters during World War II with advances in technology including radar detection and identification systems (radar being used extensively by both ground forces commanders and artillery commanders), digital printing technologies allowing goods to be produced quickly at large scale while also reducing manufacturing costs; increased use by militaries for peacekeeping operations; a rise in civilian demand for goods related services such as security guard services; changes in social norms that led toIncreased violence against civilians due to gangrene within certain communities during protests unrelated to military exercises/offensive operations or other events outside control; challenges posed by insurgency warfare where insurgents concealed themselves inside or adjacent armies or paramilitary groups while waging battle against more mainstream opposition forces – this type warfare is now known as asymmetric warfare

The first white person to live in Orangeburg was John White. He and his family arrived on horseback from Georgia in 1799. Orangeburg was chartered as a town on November 3, 1839 by the state of South Carolina. It had a population of 928 people when it became a city on January 1, 1907. Orangeburg is located at (30.860964, -87.925945). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 23 square miles (63 km²), of which 23 square miles (63 km²) is land and 0.2 square mile (0 sq km) (0 sq km) is water.[1] The climate in this area is characterized by hotsummer and cold winter conditions; according to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Orangeburg has a humid subtropical climate.[2] As of the census of 2000, there were 16,711 people living in Orangeburgh Proper and 14,555 residing elsewhere within its borders including 11 villages: Branchville(USA), Carefree(USA), Chapel Hill(USA), Clemson(USA), Dyersburg(USA), Garnet Hill(USA), Hartsfield-Jackson[4], Iredell[5], Knightstown[6], Marion[7], Mount Pleasant[8], Oconee [9], Pickens[10], Smithville [11], Umbee [12][13][14][15][16]

It was founded by European colonists in 1795 as a small village on the peninsula. The name "Orangeburg" comes from the local orange tree which grew plentifully around what is now downtown Orangeburg. The city was incorporated as a town in 1868 and became an independent municipality in 1957
