The Orangeburg Air Force Base gift history begins on Jan. 1, 1948, when the base granted an individual airman and his wife a one-year lease to set up their own home on the base. Mrs. Ellison and Mr. Ellison started living in their new home on April Fool's Day 1948. The Ellisons continued to live at AFB until Feb. 15, 1951 when they moved into their current home which was gifted to the Air Force by Mrs. Ellison's father on Nov. 5, 1951 as part of her service in the military during World War II
Orangeburg is a small town in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census, down from 6,073 in 2000. It is part of the Greenville-Aiken metropolitan area, which has a population of over 12 million people. The town was founded by Dutch colonists on May 20, 1753 as Orangeburgh and derives its name from ORANGE (a type of fruit), because it was first grown hereabouts. The first post office in Orangeburg opened in 1824. In 1830, Orangeburgh became an incorporated village after voters approved a charter to that effect. In 1865, when Charleston was founded as the new capital of South Carolina and Orangeburg became its second city, Orangeburgh declined to become an independent municipality; it withdrew from government control effective December 1st that year and regained its status as an incorporated village until April 1st 1886 when it again became an unincorporated community under state law due to lack of support from residents. Orangeburg is located near the center of Greenville–Aiken County at (33°59′09″N 80°25′46″W). It is bordered by Wofford on the east and west; Simpson on the north; Laurens on the south; Pocotaligo Creek lies between them and neighboring Laurens; Surry County to the west
The United States Air Force was founded on May 17, 1947 by the President of the United States, Harry S. Truman. Since its inception, the USAF has played an important role in American society and has been responsible for providing air power to support a wide variety of missions both abroad and at home. The USAF is also one of the few militaries that possesses nuclear weapons, which make it one of the most powerful armed forces in the world. One of the earliest gifts given to the USAF was a KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft. This plane was donated by Boeing Company president Neil Armstrong upon his first trip into space on July 20, 1969. The USAF also received three F-111A stealth fighters from Lockheed Martin Corporation in 1992 as part of Operation Desert Storm against Iraq. These planes were used for ground attack and interception duties during combat operations in Iraq and Kuwait. In recent years, several new types of aircraft have been gifted to the USAF such as Airborne Early Warning/ Control Aircraft (AWACS), Airmobile Combat Aircraft (ACAV), Global Positioning System network capability, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and other advanced technologies. These new airplanes are designed to provide more situational awareness for US military forces on land and in airspace around America and beyond.

Orangeburg is a town in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,523 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Orangeburg County. The first permanent settler in Orangeburg was James Denton in 1795. In 1818, John Leland built a log cabin on his plantation and named it after himself, Orangeburgh Plantation. By 1830, the area had become part of what is now Orangeburg County. In 1838, Aiken County was created from Beaufort and Carteret Counties and Orangeburgh became its county seat. In 1860–61, when Charleston became an incorporated city, Orangeburgh remained unincorporated until it became its own municipality as well. Today’s orange-growing community began to form around 1910 when two farmers married into families with citrus holdings: George Waddell and Frances Hinson of Greenville; their son Julius Waddell started Pee Dee Farms that year. In 1912 Pee Dee Farms merged with another family farm to form the present-day Jardine–Waddell Corporation which still grows oranges today. The name Jardine comes from James Denton who named his land for his friend Sir Walter Raleigh (1485–1558). In 1915 Mabel “Mable” Jardine moved her entire operation from Jacksonville to her new orchard complex near where she currently lives for much of the year; this old orchard remains one of only a few commercial orchards left in our community today (the others are those run by Mrs. David Ellerbee). Other early fruit growers included Mrs John Clements (aide to Governor Andrew Johnson during his presidential campaign) who grew figs and grapes; Willie Hawkins also grew some apples but he ceased operations due to World War I hostilities soon before they did so however Hawkins’ son still operates a small apple tree today on property adjacent to their home Musgrove Chapel Rd.). After World War II most orange production stopped due to changing technology but some continued until 1970 under the name “James Fenton Oranges” Inc.; this company produced up through 2006 before ceasing operations due to bankruptcy proceedings; however descendants continue grow oranges commercially behind closed doors ever since thru 2017 known as Fenton Oranges USA INC., located in Oconee Hills SC next door to their original facility
Orangeburg was founded by English colonists in 1683. It became a slave town after the American Revolution. Orangeburg is known for its white-owned cotton plantations and its annual black festival, which celebrates traditional African music and dance.
