There is no one answer to this question because the history of the National Guard in North Augusta, South Carolina goes back many years. In 1881, a group of men from various localities pooled their money and formed the United States Military Academy at West Point. They were inspired by General George Washington’s request for a cadet corps that could provide “a standing army upon which the general and his officers could rely for protection against all enemies on both sides of the Potomac.” The academy quickly grew into what it is today—the United States Military Academy at West Point offered scholarships to cadets who enlisted in the National Guard. The first unit raised by North Augusta was Company K of the SC Militia in 1903. This company was mustered into service on April 17, 1903 and served until September 1, 1903 when it was discharged because of lack of funds. It is interesting to note that these were not simply any old soldiers; these were men who had volunteered their services for military duty in South Carolina during World War I and II. In 1907, units from several surrounding towns combined to form District 3 (Chesterfield County). District 3 later became Region VII (Albany) when command responsibility moved from West Point to Fort Bragg, NC in 1959. On July 15, 1916, there was an organizational meeting held at Unit headquarters and it was decided that Companies A-F should become Battalion Headquarters detachments and be known as Battle Commandos while Company G became Squadron Headquarters detachment with Single Company designation only. In 1933 companies B-D changed their name to Guardsmen reported directly to Major Gordon Hargrave while Companies E-J continued under Major Charles Worthy with Headquarters still located at Unit headquarters but divided into three Battalions each reporting directlly to Majors Hargrave or Worthy respectively There are now over 300 Guardsmen serving with USMC all throughout our country enjoying excellent terms through our hard work ethic This paper will not cover every detail about how National Guard troops have participated in events throughout our history but will give a snapshot overview so that readers can get a basic understanding about where things started and how things have evolved over time

North Augusta is located on the Savannah River and is one of the most visited cities in South Carolina. The first Europeans to visit what is now North Augusta were Frenchmen in 1685 and Englishmen in 1710. The area that includes modern-day North Augusta was part of properly Creek Indian Township until 1833 when it became part of Union County. North Augusta is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 13,705 at the 2000 census. North Augusta is part of the Greenville–Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is named for General James Wilkinson who fought in the American Revolution and later served as a U.S. Representative from Spartanburg County. The first Europeans to visit what is now North Augusta were Indians who established contact with the area in 1678 when Englishman John Smith found a small village on the Hiwassee River inhabited by Creeks and Choctaws. In 1729 Frenchmen led by Antoine de La Salle discovered large areas of land that would become North Augusta Township when they explored and charted the area around present-day Savannah, Georgia while looking for new land to settle. In 1807 British officers burned down a cotton gin in present day Baldwinstown after discovering it was used to produce cotton without proper permits from Congress. This event created an outcry among slaveowners in America who viewed this act as an attack on their property rights which led to increased calls for emancipation throughout much of the 19th century including efforts spearheaded by Abraham Lincoln during his presidency which ultimately failed due to opposition within his own party and outside forces such as Britain's Royal Navy blockade of America). When news spread of this event local planters formed a group known as "The Patriots" which lobbied successfully against any further tariffs or taxes being placed on exports until AFTER independence was achieved thereby stimulating economic growth in what would become known as "the Palmetto State". Following Reconstruction following the American Civil War, many African Americans migrated into South Carolina seeking economic opportunities and education after years of discrimination across all levels of society in both northern and southern states including Georgia where most blacks lived before migrating southward during that time period according to historian Dolph Briscoe who wrote "Many black people looked upon Migration out West (to South Carolina) not only as their chance for emancipation but also an opportunity for social mobility." When the American Revolution began in 1775, the South Carolina town of North Augusta was one of the first to secede from English colonies. The town's residents were motivated by a variety of reasons, but most notably their dislike of taxation without representation. After months of guerrilla fighting, the British retreated and military forces arrived in town to quell the rebellion. North Augusta's residents quickly put together a militias to fight against British troops, and they managed to successful resist British occupation for more than two years. In 1781, when the British abandoned South Carolina, North Augusta became an independent state. It remained so until 1860, when it merged into Confederate States of America.
