Coffee has been enjoyed by people in Newberry, South Carolina for over a hundred years. In 1845, African Americans were brought to the area as slaves and started working in the local plantations. soon after, coffee became an important crop for the plantation owners. They bought beans from traders and exported them to different parts of the US. Coffee was also used as currency in Newberry during this time. The first coffee beans were roasted on December 6th, 1847 by Mr. Henshaw at his farm on Church Street. The first article about coffee was published in The Herald on October 1st, 1848. At that time, only white people could drink coffee and it was considered a luxury goods for wealthy families. However, many black people began enjoying coffee as well and started selling it at marketplaces throughout town. In 1860, Mrs. Craddock purchased a small farm near present-day Old Post Road which she used as her home until her death in 1902. She left behind several large boxes of unused beans which she donated to the Newberry Coffee Museum in 1906-08 under the name “The Craddock Collection” This collection included early cups and pots made of hardwood with metal or plastic lids (the modern cup). In 1912-14, Mrs Jno Pritchard donated twenty pounds of fresh coffeebeans to help support local school children during their Christmas lunchtime program provided by the Methodist Episcopal Church in nearby Lowndes County (now Jacksonville). This donation is thought to be one of the earliest gifts of coffee to United States soil! The Reverend Driggs served as superintendent of primary schools for Jackson County from 1896 until his retirement in 1925; he may have given some these Beans back to Newberry Elementary School when he opened that building in 1912! Today’s Newberry Coffee Museum has specimens from various parts of our history including old cups and pottery from 1800s through 1970s!

Newberry is a small village in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Village of Newberry was organized on December 13, 1799 by James and Elizabeth Lewis as a micropolitan area including all of Spartanburg County. On July 1, 1881, it became an incorporated town after being approved by the state legislature. Newberry was platted in 1868 on land that had been donated to the municipality by Joshua Haskins and others in memory of their lost ancestor Ebenezer Haskins (1747-1827). Ebenezer had emigrated from North Carolina to Spartanburg County in 1784 and built a log cabin here which he called "Haskins Station." In 1824 he married Sarah Goodloe and they started a family of six children: Ebenezers (3), Rachel (1), Sally (7/12), David (5/9), Harriet (4/11) and AnnaMaria (2/6). They also raised two horses and four pigs; one year they grew corn for seed but never harvested it because there were no nearest markets for what they produced. The first store in Newberry opened in 1851 with Alexander Pemberton as its first owner; he soon sold out to John Sledge who operated it until his death in 1865. A new store was built about 1900 by Elisha Swindell who added several dozen barrels of molasses each day when production increased during World War I because war supplies came through town at that time. By 1923 local merchants constituted themselves into an organization known as the Merchants' Association which purchased power from the city government; this group still controls most aspects of life within the village today In 1903 Charles Fenton bought land east of Newberry along US 11 where he built what is now known as Fenton's Store which served as a nucleus around which many other businesses developed over time including BUTCH'S Barbecue restaurant currently located across US 11 from Fenton's Store., sporting goods store, car dealership, dry goods store and more.. In 1951 local businessman Clyde Chesser bought adjacent property west of Newberry extending US 211 north onto present day Edgefield Road for development into one large shopping center housing many small businesses plus residences He also funded construction beginning in 1951 of New Berne Avenue connecting edgefield Rd with Old Frazier Park Rd creating modern day streetscape much like what exists today on Main Street between Edgefield Rd & US 211

Newberry, South Carolina is a small town in the county of Laurens, within the state of South Carolina. The population was 1,857 at the 2010 census. Newberry is located on State Route 9 and has a post office with ZIP code 29362. It was named for James Newberry, who came to the area in 1810. The present site of Newberry was first settled by African Americans in 1837 as part of Colleton County. In 1881, white settlers arrived and reincorporated Newberry into Laurens County. The town began to grow rapidly during the late 1800s due to its location along Interstate 95 and its access to coal mines. By 1910, Newberry had grown so large that it incorporated as a municipality. In 1920, Newberry became one of sixteen townships in Laurens County that were merged into Greenville Township; this move helped reduce taxes on larger towns in favor of those within the new township boundaries. Although Greenville Township ceased to exist after 1926, some remnants remain today such as Newbury Elementary School and Grove Street Baptist Church which are both still open for worship services every morning since their incorporation into Greenville Township back in 1920. In recent years, interest in preserving these historic buildings has led to them being listed on the National Register of Historic Places; however, no decisions have been made yet about whether or not they will be preserved permanently! Today, much like when it first grew up around mining camps and gas stations near Charleston Harbor many decades ago - local businesses provide essential support for locals while steady job growth ensures that everyone knows everyone's name - much has changed for little old #Newberytown since our incorporation over two hundred years ago!
Newberry was founded by the Reverend John Newberry in 1724. He and his family were the first white people to live in what is now South Carolina. Newberryville was established around him, and he became known for his excellent farming techniques. The Newberry clan eventually left Newberyria for a more permanent home in 1819.
