Myrtle Beach is a town in the U.S. state of South Carolina, situated on the Ashley River. The population was 17,787 at the 2010 census. Myrtle Beach is located within Greenville County and is part of the Charleston metropolitan area. The land that now Myrtle Beach was first settled by Native Americans in 1775 as Fort Kingman on a bluff overlooking the Ashley River. A trading post operated there from 1779 to 1807 under British rule before becoming an American settlement under George Washington in 1811. After being ceded to America by Britain, Fort Kingman became known as Fort Morgan and later Myrtle Beach due to its prominent sandy beachfront location on the mouth of the Ashley River. In 1814, General James Kaniak built a wharf here for use by his force during Sherman's Invasion of Georgia and soon after set about developing this new town with convict labor into a port city with commerce and industry growing quickly; it had a population of 1,500 when Sherman arrived in October 1865 and eventually grew to over 6,000 by 1870 thanks to investment from local entrepreneurs including John Darnell and Andrew McGowan. In 1830s slave traders founded plantations near present-day Myrtle Beach; they brought African slaves downriver for sale along Ashley River estuary shorelines where they were worked until their death or capture by whites who exported them back home as slaves or labor). As early as 1800s Lynndale Plantation Complex existed near present day Myrtle Beach proper which consisted of several large plantations holdings including: Lynchdale (owned by Nicholas Lynch), Golden Grove (owned by Phillip Goldston), Belle Isles (owned by JohnBelle Isle), Montero (owned by Manuel Montero) – all located along Ashley River estuary shorelines providing transportation and work opportunities for enslaved Africans transported downriver aboard white vessels until their capture or death at sea or freedom among enslaved black families living downstream plantation/workers’ families/neighbors. When Union forces invaded Confederate territory following Lt Col Robert Ewell's raid on Petersburg on April 12–13 1865, Union Brigadier General Joseph Hooker ordered him to march southward through Johnston County towards Columbia so that he could cut off Confederate food supplies entering Georgia through Richmond Railroad Station just east of downtown Columbia On July 8 1865 Hooker led 5 companies across Chickamauga Creek Bridge over swollen Putnam Creek resulting in heavy losses for both sides but also resulted in destruction of bridges & rail yards northsouthwest of Petersburg thus cutting off significant supply lines for Confederate forces inside Virginia primarilylihoody leading directly to surrender at Appomattox Court House three days later completing Union victory over Confederate forces throughout southern Virginia.- [Note: Beginning 3rd week preceding battle Federal troops marched through newly captured Unions Bergenfield Township northeast reaching Appomattox Court House concurrent with Battle ending] Withdrawal from Confederacy completed

Myrtle Beach is a town in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 40,471 at the 2010 census. Myrtle Beach was founded on December 12, 1871 by the merger of two small towns—Mauldin and Surfside—with the understanding that it would be an interchange for shipping goods and passengers between those two communities. The original town site includes many of the buildings still standing today including the Old Post Office, Myrtle Beach Pier and Jail, as well as several homes which have been preserved as historic sites. The first post office in Myrtle Beach opened on December 12th 1871. It served both Malden and Surfside until about 1895 when it moved to its current location at Second Street/Pineapple Alley. The first hotel in Myrtle Beach opened on July 17th 1870 with rooms for only $2 per night. That same year saw the opening of the first business school in South Carolina with courses such as Lawyer’s Assistant and stenography available to students from all over the state. In 1875 a railroad depot was built adjacent to present day Donnybrook Road which helped contribute to growth within what would become Myrtle Beach. Although there were attempts throughout history by various groups (such as developers) to move or strip awaylying smaller communities within what became Myrtle Beach, nothing ever came close to satisfying everyone’s need for a major interchange center for shipping goods and passengers between those two communities; however, during most of its history Myrtle Beaches struggled economically due largely to its location outside of Charleston city limits and its lack of significant industry or transportation links outside of Charleston itself- something that has slowly started but surely begun to change over time with new development developments being constructed near downtown Charleston area making access easier for businesses who wish nowto do business in this vibrant community located just minutes away from some world class dining options as well as easy access points into downtown Charleston through I-95/I-4 corridor….Today you can find almost anything you could possibly want or need right here in “The City Beautiful” while also enjoying some wonderful live music events every month!
