National guard gifts have been a part of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina's history for many years. The Mount Pleasant National Guard was founded on September 16, 1861, and it has served our community faithfully ever since. In 1887, the Mount Pleasant National Guard donated three cannons to the town of Mount Pleasant. These cannons were later placed in front of the State Capitol in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1912, the national guard gifted thirteen rifles to the town of Florence. These rifles were placed in a park in Florence and are still there today. In 1916, the national guard gifted two shotguns to the town of Ridgeway. These shotguns were placed in Ridgeway Park and are still there today. In 1924, the national guard gifted four handguns to the town of Hartsville. These handguns were placed in a park in Hartsville and are still there today. In 1968, two tanks were gifted to the town of Greenville by then-nationalguard commander Lieutenant Colonel James Dickey Jr.. The tanks were later placed at Fort Bragg and remain there today. In 2002, six Humvees were gifted tothe city of Mount Pleasant by then-commissioner General Colin Powell III as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom II commemorative program. The vehicles remain parked outside City Hall currently awaiting their return home after being used as promotional material for downtown businesses during live demonstrations throughout Iraq during that time period! Today, we continue to be proud contributors to our community through giving back through donations from our members as well as hosting local events such as military appreciation nights or car show days highlighting local antique and firearms dealerships within our city limits!

Mount Pleasant is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,643 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville–Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mount Pleasant has a humid subtropical climate and mild to cool winters with occasional hot days. Summers are usually very warm but there are occasional cold nights as well. The elevation ranges from sea level to 6,000 feet (1,843 m). The first settlers in what would become Mount Pleasant were three men who arrived on horseback from Georgia in 1772: John Atwater, George Bingham and James Morehead. They founded the village of Mount Pleasant on high ground between Sandy Creek and Rutherford Creek. In 1810 the area was divided into lots for white settlement and name changes followed until it became known as Mount Pleasant in 1821 when Charlestonpostal office moved to that location from its original site near present-day Market Street and Tryon Avenue. As an agricultural center, Mount Pleasant played an important role during the early years of South Carolina’s history. Many farmers here developed large plantations that produced cotton, rice, tobacco and other crops such as hemp; these operations continued until after emancipation in 1865 when most slaves left for better opportunities elsewhere in the Union states or abroad on various slave trade voyages. Most recently mountpleasant has been home to a number of businesses including restaurants (the largest being Hooters), retail stores (Jamba Juice/CVS Pharmacy) located nearby within walking distance or long drives away from all sorts of activities such as medical services (Ayers Clinic), Higher Learning institutions such as Clemson University/Purdue University Indianapolis before they merged into Clemson University proper which lies just outside town limits today while also having several smaller businesses like Mastercard American Express bank with their headquarters just east off I-85 exit 373 (just south of Jamba Juice) making it easy for everyone shopping areas have everything they need without ever having to leave their vehicle! The National Guard has a rich history dating back to the Revolutionary War. The First Continental Congress set up a national guard on July 4, 1775, to provide security for the new nation. The guards were first used in the Battle of Bunker Hill where many of the patriot fighters were killed. During World War II, the National Guard was activated more than any other branch of the military. More than 1 million men and women served in uniform during World War II, making it one of America’s largest wartime mobilizations. In 1945, President Truman established a permanent National Guard Force as part of the United States Department of Defense. Today, there are over 120 Army Reserve battalions and 100 Air National Guard battalions available to citizens who wish to join them in their patriotic duty. In addition, there are dozens of state and local militia organizations that can be activated by civilians for specific purposes such as anti-terrorism patrols or disaster relief missions. I nterestingly enough, many people have contributed their time and resources to make national guard gifts possible today. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census[10] of 2010, there were 4,531 people residing in the town: 2% Black or African American; 98% White; 0% Native American; 1% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; and 1% from other races or races alone.[11] As reported by The Clarion-Ledger for November 3rd 2009,[12] black residents make up only 2%. Latinos make up 9%, or about 2/10ths of all residents according to this source while Asians make up 10%, or about 3/10ths

The town became an important commercial center during the antebellum period, and its residents were known for their piety and piety-inspired philanthropy.
