In 1979, Hurricane Hugo struck South Carolina and caused extensive damage to businesses and homes. The storm also destroyed many infrastructure items such as roads and bridges. As a result of the hurricane, demand for coffee increased significantly and began to grow throughout South Carolina. In 1984-1986, two new plantations were purchased by the company that eventually became Peet's Coffee Company. These plantations were located near Lincolnton and Pee Dee Lakes areas respectively. In 1990-1992, another plantation was purchased by Peet's Coffee Company which was located near Greenwood Lake area on Catawba County side of state line with North Carolina). The plantation was renamed "Mauldin Farms" after its purchase by Peet's Coffee Company The following year (1994), Peet’s Coffee Co., Inc., acquired an interest in Jardine & Gamble Incorporated from former Jardine & Gamble Chairman Edward Cbagge who had strong ties to both companies through his wife’s family relationship with Jardine & Gamble heir Leslie McFarlane

Mauldin is a town in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia metropolitan area. The first European to find and describe this site was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. The first permanent English settlement was made by Captain John Smith in 1670. Mauldin was founded on March 28, 1812 by James Fenton and his wife Elizabeth Fenton as a post office named for their father-in-law, General Andrew Pickens Mauldin (1754-1836). Mauldin's history begins with early settler James Findlay who built a log cabin on the present day corner of First Street and Grove Road in 1812 while he was still living near Greenville. He soon ran out of money and moved back to his original location but continued to trade goods with Indians until 1814 when he finally abandoned the idea of developing his land holdings into a town because it would have required investment from others which he could not afford. In 1815, two years after James Findlay's arrival, another pioneer, Nicholas Banks arrived from Scotland with plans to found a new colony in what is now Charleston County but decided instead to homestead along the banks of the Ashley River near modern day Myrtle Beach where he erected his first log cabin. This settlement failed due largely to lack of water availability and severe weather conditions which led him to abandon his venture within weeks of its completion. A few months later, another Scotsman named John Ball came across an abandoned fortuitous piece of ground just south of modern day Mauldin on which he erected a small cabin known as Fort Moultrie which served as ballast for boats crossing Ashley River during Oconee War (1811-1814). After several months Of operations nothing happened so John Ball returned home without any further attempt at establishing himself or trading goods with local Indians; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of Mauldin proper although there may have been earlier settlements such as Lookout Point that were never documented or known about until later years when information became available through archaeological excavation techniques.. It wasn’t until 1830 that another Scottishman by the name of David Makinson established himself northwest of modern Mauldin on land purchased from Pee Dee settlers including Major Thomas Jourdan who had been forced off their plantation during Indian Removal Act (1800). This sawakfishing outpost enjoyed some success fishing for Catfish but quickly fell apart due primarily to lackadaisical management by Makinson who only stocked one boat per season and did not bother building shorelines or constructing anything more than simple dugouts/campsites.. In 1840 Samuel Herndon followed suit upriver from Makinson’s outpost prior To relocating his family 3 miles downriver where they eventuallyestablished themselves as Herndon & Gillett@ Plantation before becoming Mrs., Dr., & Mr. Herndon @Pleasant Hill circa 1860-. Although not welldocumented it is thought that other similar attempts were made over time culminating with establishmentof Leland Stanford Junior University located adjacentTo present day Mauldin today
