Mauldin is a small town in Guilford County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 6,852 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville– Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, Mauldin had a total of 912 businesses and industries with a payroll of $27 million. The first coffee beans were grown in this area in 1872 by early settler John Witherspoon and his wife Emaline Witherspoon. In 1893, Charles Key founded the First National Coffee Company on High Street in Mauldin. This company became one of the most successfulenterprises in American history and exported coffee to more than 50 countries. In 1937, Mauldin started its own water system which still provides drinking water for residents today. The town also built its first high school in 1917 and its first public library in 1954- both are still operating today!

The town grew rapidly during the 1825 and 1830s, due to its location along the river and its access to Indian lands. By 1840, Mauldin had a population of 1,200 people. In 1846, while fighting in the Mexican-American War, Colonel John Cushing of Union forces burned down most of Mauldin without warning residents.
