The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Mauldin, South Carolina has been providing gift services to the community for over eighty years. The present Coast Guard Auxiliary is made up of volunteer members who come from various backgrounds and industries. The Auxiliary provides a variety of gift services including: birthday candles, ice cream cones, Christmas ornaments, C-130Aviation parts and equipment, and more. The first Coast Guard Auxiliary was organized on December 1st 1912 in order to provide emotional support to sailors during their deployments off the coast of Florida. At that time, there were not any official disaster declarations for South Carolina so gifts were very important in helping maintain morale among the troops. In 1916, the Auxiliary started providing funeral assistance to Navy personnel killed during World War I. In 1948, they started providing aid and comfort to flood victims in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina struck those counties. This year marks the ninety-fifth anniversary of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Mauldin! Throughout these years we have seen many changes happen within our organization including: increased donations from individuals and businesses alike; new technologies such as online donation platforms; and even milestone events such as our first ever biannual fundraiser which raised over $50000 dollars! These moments make us feel like a small part of something much larger and it is amazing how far we have come since 1912! We would like to thank all of our donors throughout the years who have helped us grow into what we are today!

The Coast Guard founded the Mauldin Volunteer Fire Department in 1907. The department became a full-time agency in 1912. In 1951, the Coast Guard Auxiliary donated a new fire station to the department. The auxiliary donated an additional station in 1978.
Mauldin was founded in 1827 by Captain John Mauldin, who named the town in honor of his father, James Mauldin. In 1868, the name was changed to Greenville and in 1976 it became Mauldin. The town is located in the eastcentral portion of the State of South Carolina on a bend in the Ashley River. It is bordered by Lowndes County to the north, Pickens County to the west, Beaufort County to the south and Orangeburg County to the east. The population of Mauldin was 17,539 as of 2000. The town has a long history that can be traced back to its establishment as a settlement on what is now known as Horry Island. Captain John Mauldin purchased land from Chief Ebenezer Baptiste and built a cabin there in 1827. A year later he donated some land for an courthouse and jail which were completed in 1830. From this point forward,Captain Mauldin played an important role in developing Mauldin into a thriving community with many businesses and services available for its residents. One of Captain John Mauldin's most important contributions to Mauldin was his donation of land for an agricultural college which was established in 1876 by Governor Jonathan Bullock Jr.. The college has since become one of South Carolina's top institutions conferring degrees such as law and medical degrees among other programs. Mauldin, South Carolina is a small town in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The population was 2,664 at the 2010 census. Mauldin is part of the Greenville-Anderson-Statesboro metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Mauldin was Capt. George Washington Matthews who arrived in 1786 and built a cabin on the banks of Pee Dee River. He died soon after and his wife, Bathsheba, took over his property and continued to live there until her death in 1827. In 1814, an act of Congress designated land for a public school district in Spartanburg County andCaptain John Alexander Fenton purchased from James Wilkinson two tracts of land including what is now Mauldin from Wilkinson for $1 per acre (the current price for an acre). In 1824 Washington Matthews' granddaughter, Pollyanna Matthews donated all of her father's slaves - about 100 - to be used for educational purposes at "Pollyanna's Academy" which later became "Mauldin Academy." The school served as a meeting place where county commissioners could discuss local issues before being sent to Spartanburg to hear decisions from more remote locations like Lancaster or Kershaw Counties.
