The ship was built by James Eads at Charleston, South Carolina and launched on October 25th, 1802. The Constitution served as a flagship of Commodore John Sloat during the Mexican War and participated in the Battle of Palo Alto on May 6th, 1846. She also took part in the bombardment of Fort Sumter on April 14th, 1861. The Constitution was decommissioned on October 15th, 1865 and sold to J. H. Hardenbeck at Baltimore for scrapping. On December 12th, 1886 she was purchased for $5,000 by J. Witherspoon & Sons at Augusta Georgia and renamed USS Enterprise (CV-6). Enterprise served as a training ship until January 1945 when she was sunk off Okinawa after being hit by an air bomb while underway to take aboard American prisoners of war following Operation Crossroads; however hercrew survived and were repatriated to the United States shortly afterwards.

Lancaster is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 7,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metropolitan area. Lancaster was founded in 1785 by Captain John Lancaster and his family. The first post office in Lancaster opened in 1824. The German name of the town was "Altenburg" and the English name of the town was "Lancaster". The community of Lancaster had a school starting in 1838 that continued until it closed in 1915. In 1886, Captain John Lancaster donated land to build a high school which would serve all of Spartanburg County. In 1914, construction began on what would become Spartanburg High School; it opened its doors that same year. That same year, also saw the first victory for Sparta over Charleston in an American football game known as the "SEC Championship Game". In 1970, Lancaster became one of fourteen townships within Spartanburg County to be annexed into Greenville County when Greenville became one county due to mergers with other counties across South Carolina. On November 3rd, 2015 voters approved a $5 million bond issue for infrastructure projects such as road construction and new schools within Lancaster including renovations to both Holy Name Elementary School and Lancastrian Middle School which are set to open this fall 2018! This will help improve traffic congestion around these schools as well as provide much needed funds for future needs such as expansions at both Schools!

In 1824, a group of settlers from North Carolina founded Lancaster on the tidal flats at the mouth of the Ashley River. They named their town after Lord Lancaster in England because they admired his wealth and power. From its location on the river's estuary, Lancaster became an important trading center for goods exported to Charleston and other ports across the Atlantic Ocean. By 1830, however, commerce had dwindled and Lancaster's dependence on fishing led to its decline. In 1838, a group of entrepreneur farmers began developing land around town into agricultural colonies that would provide jobs for local residents and support economic development. Today, Lancaster is one of the most vibrant small towns in South Carolina thanks to its cultural attractions such as its Shakespearean productions during Carnival season and festivals such as Oktoberfest or Appalachian Music Festival
Lancaster was founded by James Lancaster in 1753. That year, Lancaster and his brother-in-law, John Swindon, purchased a tract of land on the Hiwassee River in present day South Carolina. The brothers built a cabin and began to settle the area. In 1760, they married Sarah Price and started a family. They soon realized that the land wasn't good for farming, so they switched to cattle raising. In 1768, they bought 2,000 acres (8 km2) of land on the Savannah River from Lord Cornwallis. This purchase marked the beginning of what is now Lancaster County. In 1819, Captain Alfred Troup discovered salt water in Lancaster County and named it after himself because he had found evidence that there was saline water lying beneath the earth's surface in this region of southern Africa. The residents of Lancaster County were very happy with this discovery and built an artificial harbor to accommodate their new trade with Africa. Lancaster became a borough in 1857 and then city status in 1907
