The Lancaster County Militia was organized on November 15, 1861, and became the State Militia on January 1, 1865. The Lancaster Volunteer Infantry Regiment was first organized in 1862 and served until it was disbanded on December 11, 1863. On May 16, 1865, the regiment reorganized as the Lancaster County Cavalry and served until its disbandment on July 20th of that year. The regiment donated a war clock to the city of Lancaster in 1868. The militia organization in South Carolina began with the creation of companies for defense against Indian attack on April 12th of 1861. A company was raised for each county in South Carolina from February to May of that year. Company A located in Swain Countyraised a company totaling 128 men; Company B located in Laurens County raised a company totaling 54 men; Company C located in Cherokee County levied 8 men for service and raised 10 men total; Company D located near Columbia levied 3 men for service and raised 7 men total). On October 25th of 1861 two companies were mustered into military service at Camden so that there would be enough artillerymen available to protect Confederate lines should they ever be attacked by Federal forces. In 1862 another battalion (Brigade) was created with ten companies drawn from different counties including: Kershaw, Cherokee, Cravensville (renamed Beaufort), Leonidas (renamed Easley), Uniondale (renamed Yorktown), Sumter ( renaming Greenwood),and Jasper ( renaming Garden City). Each battalion had three brigades under its command which totaled sixteen battalions divided into three corps-major general assignments each- Headquarters at Greenville(Uncle Sam's Store Co., Captain James Hogg, Brigadier General John Wofford) Brigade Major at Valdosta(Jasper Field & Armory Co.,Captain John Pemberton,) Corps Two Major General assignment’s at Charleston(Winthrop MoultrieCoat Factory Co., Captains Jno Hayes & Matthias Rankin,) Corps Three Major General Assignment’s at Savannah(John Brown & Sons Machine Shop Co.,Captain Elijah Hicks,) brigades were also assigned garrisons at Hilton Head Island Howland Island Johnston Atchison Territory KnoxvilleNewberry Bay Smithfield Georgetown

Lancaster, South Carolina is a town in Anoka County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Area. The Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1892 and currently has over 100 firefighters who serve a area including Lancaster and surrounding villages. The town was named after Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The first settler in Lancaster was George Ducharme and his family who arrived around 1787. By 1800 there were 10 families living in what is now Lancaster County. In 1852 the county seat of Anoka County was moved to Hastings so that more people could be served by one government center. A post office called Lancaster was established in 1854, and remained in operation until it closed on December 15, 1903. The first store in town opened on Main Street on May 21, 1912(). The present day Walmart store opened on November 5th of that year (). When Walmart started making its debut as a large retailer across the Midwest, they leased space from the old Lancaster Post Office buildings which are now used for storage or as part of redevelopment projects such as the current remodel of downtown (see below). Lancaster also became home to an agricultural community with many small farms located around what are now Goodyear Lake/Lake Minnetonka State Park and Interstate 35W (see map below). These farms grew corn and other feeds for livestock; however most perished during World War II when bombings destroyed much of rural America. About half of all dwellings built between 1870-1920 were single occupancy structures (), meaning that few if any have been preserved or studied since then (). In recent years there has been some effort to preserve properties within the town limits but only about 20% ()of buildings remaining from those days remain unoccupied or unused today (). Additionally many examples of obsolete architecture have come up for preservation such as several frame houses dating back to 1907 which still stand today although not used for housing anymore (); this type of architecture is generally not well suited for restoration due to instability caused by weathering and rot . Despite these challenges Preservation professionals continue their work inside and outside township boundaries trying to keep local landmarks alive while incorporating new technologies into their methods like photo scanning into Archives department

The name Lancaster was chosen because of the Lancaster County Courthouse that was located there. The first permanent residents of Lancaster were five families who arrived in 1816. By 1830, the population had grown to twelve people and the town was renamed Lancaster after its founder, John Lancaster. In 1863, a post office was established in Lancaster and it remained in operation until 1907.In 1865, a courthouse and jail were built in town and by 1870, the town had a school and three businesses. In 1917, an airfield was developed on land near the town limits and by 1924, the population hadgrown to over 200 people. During World War II, Lancaster played an important role as an airfield for Allied forces during the war effort. After the war ended, many new homes were built in township while also some older homes were torn down or renovated. Today, Lancaster is home to a few small businesses as well as several schools which make it one of South Carolina's most thriving communities
