The Lancaster Air Force Base is located in Lancaster, South Carolina and has served as a main airport for the United States military since World War II. The base was originally built during World War I as an airfield for the Signal Corps. It was renamed after General George Custer in 1942, and it became known as RAF Lancaster in 1957. In 1992, the USAF activated its First Wing at Lancaster AFB which became known as the Seventh Air Force. The wings were merged into one wing in 2001 and are now known as Headquarters-United States Air Forces Europe (HQ UFE). As of September 2006, HQ UFE consists of 10 subordinate commands with a total population of more than 165,000 people. Lancaster AFB is home to four squadrons of F-15E Strike Eagles and two squadrons of F-16C Fighting Falcons. The squadron headquarters are located at Lakenheath AB, England while all other units have their operational headquarters located at Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina or Luke AFB, Arizona. Lancaster also houses two Advanced Tactical Missile Sites (ATMS) that provide nuclear strike capability against any target within 5 nautical miles of the US mainland should hostilities erupt again in the future. While mission support from other facilities around the world allows for close coordination between these sites should conflict erupt within our hemisphere; no such integrated command and control exists when war does occur outside our borders Air force Gift History began on 9/11/2001 when Headquarters USAF activated its 1st Wing -7th Airlift Group (Airmen) at Lancaster AFB under SPECIAL OPERATIONSCommand (SOCOM). This group provideslift support to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom by providingcommando escorts for coalition aircraft conducting strikes over Iraq and Afghanistan In 2002 thru 2006 both wings operated out of #LancasterAFB different mission areas but same location so unit cohesion remained good thruout time On 8/1/2007 7th Airlift Group moved from RAF Lakenheath to Seymour Johnson AFB Raleigh NC effective 1/1/2008 3rd Wingactivated there also so all current active duty fighter jets were organized here once again Today still flyrcordlessx-planes out of #Lancastereafb but new KC-135 Stratotanker based here will be first helicopter unit deployed to afghanistan maybe later It’s been said that if you want something done right ask an airman how they did it before they do it themselves! No matter what your position may be inside or outside government service – you can always learn from those who have gone before you . During my tenure as commander 2d Bombardment Wing & 4th Fighter Wing stationed at RAF Lakenheath I saw first hand just how important it is for commanders to maintain available resources through multiple locations so we can respond quickly where needed most without sacrificing effectiveness or quality . being able to move planes & personnel around easily keeps us safe knowing we can always bring our Airmen up to date on latest technology.......This paper will focus mainly on gift history associated with the USAF base in Lancaster SC
