Greer is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Savannah River and is near Greenville and Columbia. Greer is best known for its annual Greer Festival, which takes place in October. Greer was founded by John Greer in 1795. He built a cabin on the banks of the Savannah River and named it Greer after his father, General John Greer of North Carolina. In 1814, Colonel George Patton built a house on Fort Hill and named it Patton after General George Smedley Butler who had commanded Ulysses S. Grant's forces during the Mexican-American War. In 1863, Confederate General Robert Easley established a military academy here called "The Citadel." After the American Civil War ended in 1865, The Citadel became an army post generalate with headquarters at nearby New Haverford College until 1876 when it became an army artillery school under command of General Ulysses S. Grant until 1898 when it opened as a university with ten schools of medicine and law under one roof under the name "The University of South Carolina". In 1907–1910, Drs., Mrs., Mr., & Miss James Weldon Cook occupied an old cotton barn between Second Street east of downtown and First Street south of state line to create what would become Clemson Agricultural College (now Clemson University). At that time Clemson consisted only of three buildings: Drs.' House on First Street; Mrs.'s House on Second Street; and Mr.'s House on Third Street corner lot between First Avenue east and Second Avenue south; all but four walls were made up of driftwood timbers driven into position without nails or screws because there was no money to be made from such repairs! During those years agricultural education was offered primarily through agriculture classes taught by graduate students while undergraduate students attended classes in finance, law, marketing research etc.; however since World War II there has been significant emphasis placed upon various engineering disciplines including architecture (including Earth Science), mechanical engineering (manufacturing/automotive design), business administration/administrative science (marketing/commerce), computer science/information technology

This act set the precedent for future gifts and shows that Generals were not only recipients but also participants in military operations throughout World War II. These gifts helped show appreciation for service while also demonstrating friendship between Commanders and their troops. During the Cold War era, Gifts became more important than ever before because soldiers were always at risk while on deployment or travel abroad. Greer is a small town in Richland County, South Carolina. It was founded by white settlers in 1821. The first store in Greer was built in 1825. The town grew rapidly during the early 1800s and by 1860, it had over 100 residents. In 1865, Greer became part of the Confederate States of America. After the war, Greer experienced rapid growth as a slave-owning community. By 1830, there were more than 150 slaves living in Greer. By 1861, there were only 10 slaves remaining in Greer. During Reconstruction, many African Americans moved to greER from other parts of the South for economic opportunities and political rights. In 1870,greER had a population of 350 people and by 1900 it had reached 1,500 people During the late 1800s and early 1900s, greER experienced significant cultural changes due to its proximity to Clemson University and its status as a slave-owning community. Many African Americans who lived in greER learned English while they worked on plantations or studied at Clemson University. This experience helped some African Americans become successful during Reconstruction period when most black Americans did not have access to education or work opportunities outside their homes. Some notable African American leaders who lived in greER include Roberts Moseley (1892-1976), Jesse Jackson (1984-2008), Linka Ionescu (1927-2015) and Julius Erving (1941-2018).
