Greenwood Coffee was founded in 1880 by George Greenwood and his wife Sarah. They grew coffee beans in a small, rural town in South Carolina. The first coffee shop in Greenwood opened in 1889.
Greenwood is a town in Pickens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenwood Metropolitan Statistical Area. Greenwood was founded in 1811 and named for Captain John Greenwood of the British Royal Navy. Greenwood has one elementary school and one high school. It also has a library, which opened in 1903. The town was first settled by African Americans on land that had been donated by General Daniel Morgan to them as part of the Edmund Pettus Plan referendum of 1896. The town was officially incorporated on November 3, 1898. Greenwood became an open-air shopping center when it was developed along Broad Street between US Highway 16 and US Highway 70 in the late 1970s and early 1980s as an attempt to revitalize downtown Pickensville after years of decline following Hurricane Hugo in 1992%. In 2001, local developers bought out most of the remaining original investors in downtown Pickensville, creating what is now known as "The Village". As part of this redevelopment project, Woodward Avenue was renamed "John Fayette Boulevard" and new retail centers were built near Interstate 501/US 441 (now I-85) and State Route 601 (Now SR 620). In 2006, The Village lost its zoning authority after being accused by some residents of being too commercialized and Developers have since rezoning it into residential uses only. On October 10th 2007 Greenwood's long awaited High School finally opened their doors to students!

The origins of coffee are unknown, but it is thought that beans were first roasted and brewed using native seeds in Africa. Coffee became an important trade product for traders in the Middle East and Asia, and was exported to Europe and North America. By the end of the 18th century, coffee had spread throughout much of central and South America. In 1811, Dutch settlers founded a small town called Rotterdam on the Rotterdam River in what is now The Netherlands. In 1816, they began marketing their own roasted coffee as Rotterdam Coffee. This early incarnation of Rotterdam Coffee became one of the most well-known coffees in the world. In 1847, Dutchmen established a new town named Amsterdam on de Amstel River near The Hague in what is now Holland. They began selling roasts from their newly founded coffee shop — which later became known as café de Amsterdam (coffee house of Amsterdam). This new cafe quickly grew into one of Amsterdam's most popular tourist destinations for breakfast or lunchtime customers. Over time, other cities within The Netherlands began to establish their own coffee houses/cafes such as Utrecht (1868), Aalborg (1893), Den Haag (1904), Nijmegen (1907), Rotterdam (1909), Utrecht (1910) and Leiden (1920). These cafes served different types of coffees from different regions throughout The Netherlands; however, all these cafes shared one common goal: to provide delicious morning or afternoon cups of hot chocolate or espresso with freshly baked croissants or bread rolls!

Greenwood, South Carolina is a small town located in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. The town was founded in 1837 and has grown since then. Greenwood is known for its history, which includes events such as the Battle of Hilton Head on January 17, 1881, during the American Civil War. The town also has a rich culture and history that can be found throughout the community. The first settlers to Greenwood arrived in 1837 and weresidemen from neighboring Ashley County. In 1840, two men named Samuel Slaton and James McMorrow started a small farm near what is now the corner of Main Street and Church Street in Greenwood. Over time, more people moved to Greenwood from surrounding counties including Ashley, Pickens, Darlington, Beaufort, Edgefield and Florence. By 1865, Greenwood had a population of around 100 residents. According to local legend, General Robert Ewell's cavalry unit halted at Greenwoods Crossroads on their way south after assaulting Fort Sumter on April 12th 1861 while supplies were being transported through the area. Thousands of soldiers passed through Greenwoods upon their return trip home that day; some locals claim that as many as 10 thousand Confederate troops stopped at the crossroads for refreshments before continuing on their march southward. It was here that General Ewell placed his flagship "General Beauregard" ashore for repairs just prior to setting off downriver for Charleston harbor on April 14th 1861 under cover of darkness (the night before Charleston surrendered). Aftermath reports suggest up to 2-3 thousand Confederate soldiers were killed or wounded at this location alone - an event which would later become known as "The Battle of Greenwoods." A post office was established in Greenwoods Station on December 5th 1847 by Colonel John Denton with mail service starting February 1st 1850. The first postmaster was Jeptha Pugh who served until May 1870 when he was replaced by Wm Henson Jr.. A store built near what is now High School opened in October 1860 by Hiram Higginson & Son with general merchandise available beginning November 1st 1860; it closed circa 1865 due to competition from other stores within town limits>. This store reopened in March 1865 under new management with Daniel Gist as owner/operator> In 1865-66 there was also a blacksmith shop operated by George White along with 3 harness shops> One account claims white women went into business serving everyone from general store pickles all the way up to family farmers' eggs> Another account claims these businesses did not survive long past 1865 because they were outspent by better managed whites}. In 1868/69 Ebenezer Hammonds began operating a grocery store within walking distance of where he lived along High Street]]. Ebenezer Hammonds ran this store until his death in 1896]. During this time period there also existed 2 post offices within townlimits: one established September 7th 1870 [which closed], another opened October 25th 1871 [which continued operation until May 1893]". Greenwood was chartered in 1828, and became a town in 1830. The first white settler arrived in Greenwood in 1837, and the town had its first post office in 1840. Greenwood developed as a small village with two churches and seven homes until the arrival of railroad transportation made it an important center for trade and industry. Greenwood's economy changed when the Charleston & Augusta Railroad was built through the community in 1884. The railroad increased traffic to Greenwood, which led to more development and growth of the town. Today, Greenwood is home to a library, churches, businesses, schools, and several thousand residents.
