Greenwood has a rich coffee history dating back to the early 1800s. The town was founded by planters who grew coffee beans in their own gardens. From here, Greenwood Coffee Roasters began roasting and selling its coffee through local merchants and schools. Today, Greenwood Coffee is one of the most respected artisanal roasters in the Southeast.

Artisan coffee is a term often used to describe coffees that are hand-roasted in small batches and brewed with specific techniques and ingredients. These coffees are typically made with beans from local farmers or roasters who take pride in their craftsmanship. Arkansas Coffee Roasters was founded in 2000 by four friends who were passionate about coffee. Today, Ark Coffee Roasters has five stores throughout the state of Arkansas and six distribution points in other southeast states. The company produces over sixty different flavors of artisan coffee, all of which are designed to be enjoyed fresh or cold. The process of roasting beans begins with selection of the best beans for use in the coffee roast cycle. After this, the coffee is wetted and then dried using traditional methods such as sun exposure and air drying. Once dry, the beans are ground into a fine powder before being placed into an oven at around 200 degrees Fahrenheit until they reach their desired flavor profile. Assassin's Coffee is one of the first coffee shops in Greenwood. It was opened in 1984 by Rick and Cathy Sawaya. The shop became a roastery in 2006 and now produces its own beans.

Greenwood is a small town in southcentral South Carolina. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is part of the Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson combined statistical area. It is also included in the Columbia, SC-Richmond, VA Combined Statistical Area. Greenwood is located on US-1 and US-64 corridor between Spartanburg and Greenville proper. The land that now sits in Greenwood was first settled by Native Americans around 1000 CE. By 1800, the Cherokee had established a village here and began to cultivation crops such as corn, cotton, beans and squash for their own food supply as well as trade goods with other tribes nearby. In 1814 British traders arrived in what is now Greenwood on an exploring expedition looking for new westward routes through the region. They landed on what is now known as Beaufort Island and were met by local Native Americans who welcomed them warmly until they learned about European culture and intentions. The British traders then left but not before taking with them some of the local Indians who helped establish Greenwood along with some trading posts near present day Hartsfield County Airport (now Atlanta) which served as a staging ground for Indian raids into surrounding areas during this time period including neighboring Avery Parish (then Anoka County). By 1820 most of what today makes up Greenwood was organized under one roof when Fort Sumter fell to Confederate forces during the American Civil War resulting in much of eastern South Carolina joining Union forces while much of northwestern South Carolina remained Confederate territory until after hostilities ended in 1865. Greenwood quickly became an important stop on road travelers journeying through central South Carolina due to its rich agricultural communities that produced staples such as cornmeal, cottonseed oil, okra, peas and beans; tobacco; honey; potatoes; garlic; onions; sweet potatoes; molasses; saltpeter? Additionally it provided access to resources such as water supplies from numerous creeks and rivers within easy reach via canals dug deep into the earth including those still extant today that provide drinking water for many residents today including parts of metro Atlanta Many early settlers brought their families with them when they moved to Greenwood so that they could live close to their crops while also getting closer to family back home in North Carolina or Kentucky where many members of each family worked side by side - often sharingcropping sugarcane or raising chickens or pigs - until secession removed all legal barriers between these two states thereby opening up markets for agriculture throughout both states . As scores upon scores of Nordics poured into South Carolina during Reconstruction following America’s civil war – seeking work opportunities – prices for farmland dropped precipitously making it possible for farmers like John Dandridge Sr., presidente de la Georgia Cotton Exchange & Trust Company (later Georgia Power), father of future Congressman John Dandridge III (1925-2007) to purchase over 100 square miles (240 acres) contiguous with current day Greenwood from banker James Fenton Smith in 1865 at just $2 per acre – yielding him control over one third of all cultivated land within modern day Spartanburg County limits! Greenwood is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The population was 5,574 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is part of the Greenville–Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Greenwood was James Moody who arrived in 1796. The first black person to live in Greenwood was Ebenezer White and his family in 1806. In 1830, Greenwood had a population of 1,500 and by 1860 it had grown to over 6,000. Greenwood's growth can be attributed to its location as the county seat for Spartanburg County and its access to goods and markets from both Charleston and Savannah. The cotton industry played an important role in Greenwood's development and produced many local jobs for residents. In addition, the community staged civic events such as Fourth of July celebrations and fairs that drew people from all over southern South Carolina. In 1960, Greenwood became one of fourteen townships within Spartanburg County when it was divided into two counties – Spartanburg County and Pickens County – with boundaries unchanged since they were established area-wide twenty years earlier on November 3, 1907. At that time much of present day Spartanburg County had been annexed by neighboring Pickens County during Reconstruction following the Civil War.
