Goose Creek is a town in McCormick County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,734 at the 2010 census. The name of the creek comes from an English place-name that means "goose run." Goose Creek was named for a family of geese that nested in the area. The creek was first known as "Sparrow Run" and then shortened to " Goose Creek". In 1824, the United States government surveyed the area and discovered that there were many large trees in this area which made it difficult for settlers to clear land. The survey also showed that there was a small stream between Goose Creek and Indian Rocks Brook. This led to the name of Goose Creek being given to the stream.
