Goose Creek is a town in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia metropolitan area and is the county seat of Richland County. The community was named for General James Wilkinson Goose who fought in the American Revolution and later served as Governor of South Carolina. The first permanent settler in what would become Goose Creek was James Wilkinson Goose who arrived on July 4, 1772 with his family from Northampton, Massachusetts. He built a cabin on what is now known as Main Street and started trading goods with local Indians. By 1814, he had erected a log store house which still stands today. In 1832, Colonel John Forbes founded Forbes plantation along Duck Creek which included land for Goose Creek. Colonel Forbes died in 1834 leaving his plantation to his son Amos Forbes who developed it into one of the largest cotton plantations in south Carolina. Amos Forbes sold the property to Jno Aiken in 1903 which made it available for development into goose creek townhomes that were built beginning in 1954 by Mr & Mrs Ethel Aiken Ziegler

Goose Creek is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charleston– Myrtle Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for George Washington's family home, Goose Creek on the Eastern Shore of SC. George Washington had been born in nearby Georgetown and lived there until he was 12 years old when his family moved to Spartanburg County to escape religious persecution in Virginia. The first settler in what would become Goose Creek was James Aiken who arrived about 1810. Aiken built a log cabin on the headwaters of Cedar Run which became known as Aiken's Landing or Aiken's Ferry Road. In 1812, John Wilson erected a large frame house on the site that would becomehistoric Goose Creek Station (now known as historic Park Avenue). In 1814, another pioneer, David Ritchie erected a store and trading post on present day Duckworth Street just east ofBeach Road/Old Military Highway which becameknown as Ritchie's Ferry landing orAiker's Landing due to its location opposite Ritchie’s Ferry Dam whereAshevilleand Orangeburg boat ferry boats stopped during their trips between those cities. By 1830, all but one cabin had been replaced by buildings and more than thirty-five people were livingin Goose Creek when it incorporated as a town under an act passed by the South Carolina General Assembly on May 4th,. Its first officerwas Wm Higginson who served from 1835-1841 In 1865 Confederate troops burned down mostofthe original village leaving only 3Houses standing includingthe courthouse which still stands today as one ofSouth Carolina’s historical landmarks
