Fort Mill, South Carolina is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Clemson University and Fort Mill Coffee Roasters, which are both located in the town. The first coffee beans were grown in Fort Mill by Elias Howe in 1785. In 1837, John Blair founded Blair's Coffee House on Meeting Street in Fort Mill. In 1871, J. B. Steele started Steele's Coffee House and Cafe on Court Square in Fort Mill after buying a property there from James Gadsden. A year later, J. B.'s son-in-law Winthrop Gayles openedGayles' Cafeteria on Meeting Street with $5 per week for subscribers who ate at his house each day from 5am to 10pm during business hours (later shortened to "Gadles'). In 1903, Clyde Dillard and his brother Harry bought land north of Fayetteville and began growing coffee beans there as well (Dillard & Company). By 1928, they had established a brand that became known as "The Fort Mill Brand". That same year also saw the opening of Harts coffee house on Meeting Street where friends and family gathered to drink coffee or eat sandwiches before going off to their busy lives back east or elsewhere across America during those times (Harts Café). After World War II ended, many Americans settled down permanently outside of cities such as New York City or Boston due to high cost of living inside those large cities (John Lennon once said this about FtMill). Consequently, much less money was available for spending at cafes like Harts Café which closed its doors for good around 1954 due to lack of patronage among its former customers (the last thing anyone wanted when all their favorite places just closed up shop). However some people did manage to keep the cafés open until 1973 under various names including American Legion Post #5 across from First Baptist Church - still serving delicious cups today! On September 15th 1978 - fort MILL COFFEE ROASTERS ANNUAL TACKLE PARTY - over 100 individuals came out to enjoy a great roast beef dinner cooked by our Head Roaster/Owner Fred Kappler himself! Many local businesses participated including The Postgresql Exchange store next door which served huge lunches for everyone attending including plenty of gravy!

In 1830, a second coffee house was opened on Meetinghouse Square. In 1847, the Fort Mill Coffee House and Café became one of the first businesses to be licensed as a grocery store in South Carolina. The café continued to serve coffee until 1931. In 1865, Fort Mill's first school was established on White Street. In 1899, the school moved to its current location on Freemans Lane and remained open until 1954.

Fort Mill was founded by James Baldwin and John Pemberton in 1820 as a trading post on the Yadkin River. The town grew around the fort and its surrounding plantations until it became an incorporated municipality in 1875. The first settler in Fort Mill was James Baldwin, who arrived in 1820 from Maryland. He built a cabin on what is now Overton Road and traded with Indians for goods such as corn and tobacco. In 1825, he married Sarah Goodspeed, daughter of Rev. John Goodspeed of Colleton Parish (now Georgetown). The Balfours family settled near Fort Mill in 1830, becoming one of the earliest white settlers there. They were soon followed by other families including David Wilkes Booth's father-in-law Amos Kendall and his wife Hannah Booth; Samuel Fenton; Jonathan Toombs; Richard Byers; Thomas Proctor; Jabez Thornton; James Caldwell; David Hunter (a founder of Tryon College); Simeon Swain (a Revolutionary War veteran); Amos Kendall's nephew Jonas Peyton Randolph (the son of Augustine Randolph, Jr., a representative from South Carolina to the Continental Congress during that period); Increase Moultrie (the brother-in-law of Alexander Hamilton]; Jeremiah Richardson ; Archibald McGillivray ; Patrick Henry Marshall ; Ambrose Burnside ; Andrew Johnson In 1865 Union General Robert Ewell invaded South Carolina through Laurens County looking for Confederate General Achatous Hill who had fled to Tyger Island after defeating Union forces at Battle Of Bridgeport Creek outside Charleston earlier that year. Ewell's purpose was not clear but he may have been seeking revenge for Hill's defeat at nearby Second Bull Run two years earlier which had resulted in more than 800 casualties on both sides combined according to historian Forrest Gump Ewell' invasion pushed back Confederate General Beauregard's army about 10 miles eastward along the Yadkin River where they entrenched themselves using earthworks extending upriver from present day Overton Road near Rocky Mount Cemetery among other features Aftermath: [ battle sign ] At this point I am going too fast
