The town was founded by David Cranch and others in 1868. It became a municipality in 1907. In 1960, it amalgamated with two other towns, Greenville and Aiken, to form the Town of Easley. The population increased to 11,641 as of the 2016 census. Easley is located on U S Route 278 north of Columbia and south of Myrtle Beach. It is east-northeast of Clemson University and west-southwest of Nobel Manufacturing Company Incorporated (now JBL Industries Inc.). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land.

Easley is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,291 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Easley was made by John and Jane Goodloe on October 11, 1795. They founded a log cabin on Hwy 20 about three miles east of present day Easley." Easley developed quickly due to its strategic location as a transportation and commercial hub on the newly opening SC State Line Railroad. In 1892, Easley's post office opened after years of effort by local residents and boosters led by J.D.Goodloe Sr.. In 1907, the townsite was named in honor of General Willard Gibbs Easley who had died that year while fighting with Confederate forces in North Carolina during the American Civil War. In 1916, construction began on Henry Clay Smith Airport which became operational two years later and served as an important link between Spartanburg County and surrounding rural areas throughout the 1920s and 1930s. The airport continues to serve as an important aviation center today. In 1945 when Revolutionary War veteran General James Longstreet surrendered at Appomattox Court House, his horse Gladys was captured by Federal troops near Easley; her beauty sparked demand for her capture across much of south Carolina for public display as part of "Gladys Week" celebrations throughout the state starting on April 14th through 18th
Easley was founded in 1811 by James Easley and his wife, Hannah. The town was named after the two men, who had a cabin in the area. James died in 1815 and Hannah continued to live there until her death in 1827. She is buried at Green Hill Cemetery. Easley was once one of the most important towns in South Carolina because it had a post office and several businesses that supplied goods to the state. It also served as the county seat for Anoka County from 1865 until 1871 when Columbia became the new county seat.
