Since the early 1800s, Marines have been deployed in various conflicts around the world. One of the most famous deployments was during World War II when they served as part of the United States Navy. The Marines have since become an iconic force in American culture and are often thought of as one of America's leading military assets. One of the more recent Marine Deployments took place in Conway, South Carolina during Hurricane Irma. The Marines were called to assist with relief efforts and provide support to local businesses and citizens. In doing so, they demonstrated their commitment to service and democracy by helping out those in need.

The Marines of the 3rd Marine Division deployed a gift history in Conway, South Carolina in 2009. The gift was a large and beautiful painting of marines fighting in World War II.

Conway, South Carolina is a small town in central South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Greenville–Spartanburg–Anderson County metropolitan area. Conway is located on State Route 129 and Interstate 95. Conway was first settled by white people in the early 1800s. In 1825, General Andrew Jackson moved his army through what is now Conway to attack Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor and began the American Civil War. The town had no military installations during the Civil War; however, it did see heavy traffic on State Routes 129 and 95 as Union troops marched through town to reach their battle sites elsewhere in South Carolina. When Reconstruction ended in 1877, most of what is now Conway were burned down by Confederate forces while retreating from Unionbern Virginia after the surrender of that state's capital Richmond to General Robert E Lee's army at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. Most of the original settlers abandoned their homes within a few years of Reconstruction ending; however, many new residents arrived over time as cotton prices plummeted following World War II and postwar demand for housing grew throughout southern South Carolina. The towns growth continued into the 21st century with some modest real estate developments taking place including: Ladd’s Crossing (2002), Gateway Park (2006), Conway Place (2008), Sweetwater Crossing (2010) and Old North Bridge Road Shopping Center (2012). However much development has occurred since then due largely to high-density apartment construction near I-95 which has caused increased traffic congestion around downtown Conway as well as along StateRoute 129 which bisects town center east-west. The history of Conway goes back several hundred years when white people first set foot hereabouts on this fertile soil that slopes gently toward Catawba River Valley below. They established trading posts here before European settlement began about 1750 AFT with English traders such as James Fenton among those who operated these posts at various points along what would become known locally as “the Broad Street Necklace” extending from present day north Tryon Street northeastward until just beyond today’s limits of Main Street eastward where it enters Presque Isle Sound...In 1663 Colonel John Moore discovered Camdenouge Bayou hereabouts and named it for himself soon thereafter founding one or more post Hereabout but notably without action other than name change which took place about 1670 AFT under King Charles II & subsequent English Governors operating outposts along this necklace including many still extant even unto our own day viz Camdenouge Bayou Delaware Keys etc etc etc The first permanent settler in this area was Captured John Moore who came ashore from his ship "Eagle" July 6th 1663 - he naming feature creek Savannah later called Stono Creek after him ere he built fortifications thereagainst French incursion Aug 15th 1710 - deep water jetty obtained by adjacent Plantation owner said site thenceforth known popularly DeKalb Pointe though never chartered herein nor taxed till charter granted Feb 3rd 1714 AFT by Act Of Congress May 25th 1700 for use And Defense By Government Against Indian Attack...This fortification served until destroyed Apr 4th 1775 during British Invasion Moore became PostmasterGeneral herewithApr4 1775 given power hereafter vested In Majors general commanding Army And Navy For Defense Of Southern Coastal Zone prior To Declaration Of Independence thereby putting an end forever To French Occupation Sept 5TH 1776... Conway is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It was named for General Conway who fought in the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Conway was founded by white men on November 5, 1802 as "New Hope". The first settler in what is now Conway was John Noble who arrived with his family from Virginia on October 3, 1800. At that time it consisted of just over one acre (0.40 hectares). One hundred years later on November 5, 1882, when the town incorporated under its present name, it had a population of 1,402. In 1915-1916 during World War I an airfield and battery were built to support American forces which were located about two miles northeast of town along SC 295. This area became known as Camp Forrest after General Ulysses S.
