Conway, South Carolina has an Army deployed gift history that dates back to the early 1800s. The first military installation in Conway was Fort Brooke on the banks of the Santee River. This fort served as a training ground for future Confederate generals and was also used as a hospital during the American Civil War. In 1903, the United States Marines moved into Conway from Jacksonville, Florida and began garrisoning the fort. The marines continued to use Fort Brooke until 1917 when it was decommissioned and sold to private owners. In 1951, Conway became home to Marine Barracks #1 which housed USMC forces until 1959 when they were replaced by Marine Barracks #2. The USMC presence in Conway ended with their departure in 1961 and Marine Barracks #1 became a civilian leisure center. It remained this way until 1996 when it was renamed Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune after then-Marine General James L. Lejeune Jr.. In 2006, Camp LeJeune was transferred from USMC control to Joint Forces Command and is now known as Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
Conway is a small town located in the state of South Carolina. The population was 5,493 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg metropolitan area. Conway was founded in 1794 by Rev. Dr. Samuel Conway and named after him. The first post office in Conway opened in 1811. It was renamed to honor General Sir John Byng on October 1, 1815, during the Preble administration of United States President James K. Polk (1845-1849). In 1923, General Hugh Ligon Jr., who had served as Army Commander of Egypt and Sudan during World War I and later became a U.S diplomat, donated land to make up for what he saw as broken promises made by then-President Warren G Harding (1921-1923). On May 26, 1925, General Hugh Ligon Jr.'s donation was accepted by South Carolina Governor Garnett Borden II and dedicated at a ceremony at which then-Governor Orval Faubus remarked that "Hugh Ligon has given us an excellent addition to our community." The first store in Conway opened its doors in 1909 with Fords being the primary vehicle type sales throughout much of its history until 1968 when Chevrolet became dominant with Ford becoming available only through large dealership chains like GMC/Chevrolet/Plymouth under certain circumstances such as special events or military contracts where Chevrolet offered better value while still providing good performance than other brands on the market at that time including Ford electrics only could provide without those specials events or military contracts taking place which caused some dealerships to close leaving Chevros all alone except for specialty stores such as these two locations run by General Motors Corporation - one located off US Highway 27 south of downtown and one located off US Highway 278 east side near Interstate 85 exit 12B just north of Interstate 95 exit 13A

On January 1, 1991 UTC changed its name to America/Conway after passage of an act by the South Carolina General Assembly as part of a larger statewide changeover celebration for all US jurisdictions enteringUTC on January 1st that year Onion Statehood Day. In March 2000 Hurricane Mitch made landfall near Conway with winds over 130 mph (215 km/h). Many homes were destroyed or damaged and many people were displaced due to flooding from the storm; however no injuries were reported within Conway specifically nor anywhere else along Charleston Countyshoreline. In total more than $100 million worth of damage was done to businesses throughout North Carolina while some assessments put global losses closer to $200 million
The Conway community was founded in 1834 by Hugh Conway and his family. The community served as a base of operations for the early gold miners in South Carolina. In 1860, during the American Civil War, Conway sided with the Confederacy and lost many of its residents to Confederate forces.
