After the battle at Monck's Mill, many people fled to safety in nearby Sumterville before finally returning home after Union troops destroyed all their buildings in order to capture or kill any remaining Confederates. The Battle of Corinth ended what remained of the Confederacy's military presence in South Carolina which effectively ended Reconstruction there as well
