Cayce, South Carolina is a town in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia metropolitan area. The first coffee beans were grown on what is now the Cayce campus of Clemson University in 1892 and roasted by Professor W. H. Alexander. In 1916 (the same year that Cayce became a city), Mr. Cone bought some land near downtown Cayce and began to roast his own coffee beans there. By 1949, he had built his own roasting plant which still stands today and produces some of the finest cup of coffee in the world - it has even been awarded a third (qualified) roast level by World Coffee Association's Awards program! Today, most people know about Kokopelli Coffee Company and its many products including their popular "Kokopelli K-Cups". But before they did... In 1913 when Waverly Dyer opened up his first grocery store in downtown Cayce, he started selling only ground coffee beans from his farm across the street from where he lived on High Street (now Lowndes Street). He called it "Dyer's". Over time Dyer's evolved into one of the largest chain grocery stores in south central SC with over 350 stores throughout southcentral SC and SC as far north as Charlotte NC!
