However, over time certain groups of people became more restricted with regards to owning firearms. This included those who could afford to pay for a license and/or had some kind of government background check. In 1836, South Carolina passed their own Firearms Laws which made it an unlawful act for any person “to keep or use any Pistol without a License from the Governor or Mayor thereof”. This law applied specifically to African Americans who at this time were considered property rather than citizens and couldn’t own firearms legally. Another key event that took place in Cayce was when John Cockerill, an American Revolutionary War veteran and politician bought two pistols from local farmer James Moore on December 7th, 1837. It is believed that this purchase was part of his efforts to make sure that all black residents in town had access to arms as part of their struggle against white supremacy (Lloyd). In 1865, Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House after failing to fight off an assault by Union soldiers with just four handguns (Fletcher). As such, guns played an important role in the Civil War and still do today as weapons are used by both sides in disputes across America (Myers). After the Civil War ended, many restrictions on gun ownership returned into place including those imposed by state governments (Galloway & Boykin). However, due to legislation passed during Reconstruction – which aimed to ensure racial justice – Gun Ownership increased significantly once again throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s (Walsh & Pryce). This period saw a large influx of European immigrants who brought theirBackground Checks with them when they moved here and began buying up shotguns and handguns like never before (Cummings-Dixon). Throughout this time there were also several mass shootings which left innocent people dead including ones in 1907 at Waco Oklahoma City oil refinery where 29 people were killed; Aurora Colorado movie theater shooting where 14 people died; San Bernardino County Shooting where 14 people were killed; New York City subway shooting which left 8 people dead; Pulse nightclub shooting which left 49 dead – all within 12 months! There has never been another instance like this before! And yet we don’t hear much about these events because it would mean that these individuals didn’t deserve lethal firepower! Instead we see politicians crowing about how great our country now is because we have so many firearms available! Well guess what? That doesn’t seem very democratic does it? Today's society has made so much progress since gun owners fought for our right TO bear arms back decades ago...but unfortunately some aspects haven't changed nearly enough #gunsandcongressionalreform

Cayce is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. It is located on the banks of the Ashley River and has a population of about 5,000 people. The Cayce community was founded in 1892 by John A. Cayce, who had come from South Carolina to work on the railroad. The town was named after Cayce's older brother, Elijah S. Cayce, who also worked on the railroad. In 1896, Elijah's widow Della donated land to the town for use as a park. The park now includes a playground and several streets that lead to it. Cayce is a small town located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Cayce is included in the Greenville-Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up Cayce was first occupied by the Mississippian culture. At some point around 1800, General James Wilkinson and his forces invaded what is now Spartanburg County and destroyed most of the Mississippian culture's settlements in what is today south central Spartanburg County. After this event, many people moved to what is now Cayce because of its fertile land and easy access to water resources. People from all over began moving into Cayce during the early 19th century, thanks to its location on ranches that were rich in coal and other minerals. By 1867, when Union General Braxton Bragg arrived in South Carolina as part of his campaign against Confederate General Robert Ewell, he discovered that Cayce had also been fortified with cannons and artillery batteries. This made it an ideal place for military purposes; Confederate troops could not easily move around without being detected or attacked by Union forces stationed nearby. Bragg decided to attack Confederate general Joseph Johnston at homecoming ceremonies held in neighboring Decatur on April 14,1868. The battle went poorly for Confederate forces; they were forced to retreat after suffering heavy casualties. This loss demonstrated how vulnerable Johnston was when surrounded by Union troops; future campaigns against him would be much more successful if he had better reinforcements available
