Cayce is a small town in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. It was founded on the banks of the Broad River by white settlers in 1819. The town was named for General John Cayce, a Confederate general who fought in the American Civil War. In 1865, Cayce became anindependent municipality and has since been known as one of the most coffee-consuming communities in America. The first coffee beans were grown near where Cayce now stands on a family farm that had been working the land for centuries. The Taylors began brewing coffee from these beans in 1847. By 1860, they had opened their own shop and started to sell their coffee all over South Carolina and Georgia. Between 1861 and 1865, about 60 different shops sold Taylors Coffee throughout America. In 1886, George Peabody bought Taylors Coffee from its original operators and started to expand its production into other states including Florida, Texas, Nevada and California. He also began selling his coffee through mail order service back then called “Peabody’s Department Store”. By 1909, Peabody had become one of the largest vintners in America with locations across 16 countries including France, Belgium (where he continued to produce his famous cognac), Russia (where he exported tea), Japan (where hiscoffee was served at Japanese Embassy services) and Australia (where he exporting hot chocolate). In 1969-1970 when it came time for Peabody to move his company out of its old brick building located on Main Street into new facilities within what is now called the Walmart Supercenter on I-95 North – this marked beginning of end for Taylors Coffee especially as Walmart became increasingly dominant in retailing caffeine products around the world At present day there are more than 350 cafes worldwide branded with “Taylor” which operate under a variety of brand names including Starbucks®, Dunkin' Donuts®, Caribou Coffee®, La Maison du Caffeine® etc

Cayce's history of coffee begins with Martinique Coffee. Cayce Coffee was founded by Dr. John G. MacDonald in 1892, and began serving coffee throughout the town. The company continued to grow and serve coffee until it closed its doors in 1978. Today, a few legacy businesses still carry on the tradition of quality coffee service with Martinique Coffee products available at local cafes and tea shops throughout the area.

Dutch traders also discovered Java (now Indonesia) in the late 17th century and began trading with India for coffee beans. By 1600,Java had become one of the leading centers for coffee production on Earth. In 1790, Italian immigrants founded Rojo Coffee Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which became one of the largestcoffee companies in history. In 1825, British colonists founded another English-speaking coffeeproducer named Koffee Klatch near Philadelphia’s University City neighborhood. These two initial pioneer producers set a standard for future American roasters and continue to produce high-quality cups of Joe today!

Cayce, SC was founded in 1835 by a group of men led by Colonel John D. Smith and Congressman John Ruffin. The town quickly became a center for cotton production and trade, with a sawmill, gristmill, store, and school being built within the first few years. In 1876, Cayce attained statehood as a result of the efforts of Governor James A. Bailey. Over the next several decades, the town continued to grow and develop into one ofasley's most important economic engines. Today, Cayce is home to a variety of businesses and cultural attractions including an opera house and several churches. It also boasts some impressive historical landmarks such as the Colonel John D. Smith House ( Built in 1892), which is now used as an event hall; the Smith-Ruffin House (built in 1902); and the Hargrave School (established in 1865).
