The Marines of the Beaufort Naval Air Station have a rich history that goes back to World War II. The station has been home to Marine aviation since 1941, and during that time it has played a critical role in many wars and campaigns. The first Marine Aviation unit stationed at Beaufort was the 2nd Marine Aviation Regiment which arrived in 1941. The regiment was made up of pilots who were trained as fighter aircraft mechanics and flew combat missions against Axis forces from airfields on Curaçao and Dutch Antilles. In 1945, the 1st Marine Aviation Regiment arrived at Beaufort and served as an adjunct to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Group untilactivated in 1946. In 1951, when marines were called up for service in Korea, the 1st MEF Detachment was activated at Beaufort under command of First Lieutenant Colonel James Waddell Jr. The detachment provided aerial refueling support for ground forces operations during the Korean War. AfterWWII, Beaufort became home to Headquartersmarine Division (HMD) 4th Fleet which housed subordinate units such as Amphibious Force 5th Fleet and Helicopter Squadron One-Sixteen (HS-1). During HMD’s tenure, Beaufort also saw its first helicopter squadron: HS-2E “Panther” squadrons arrive in 1951 followed by HS-3A “Wildcat” squadron in 1955. In 1954, HMD changed its name to Headquartersmarine Forces Europe (HQME) after headquarters moved from Washington D.C. HQME oversaw all aspects of marine aviation within European Command responsible for maritime operations worldwide including amphibious landings ashore, carrier based warfare, missile defense systems etc.. In 1958 HQME relocated again when HQulse assumed command of all naval aviation elements afloat within NATO following Germany’s reunification from Communist rule . During this periodHQME also acquired two new carriers: USS North Carolina(CVN 76) and USS Yorktown(CVN 56). With these ships alongside HMS Ark Royal(RN), USS Enterprise(CVN 74), USS Shangri-La(VNS 781), HMS Hermes(DDR 955) et al., marine aviation enjoyed a resurgence throughout the early 1960s with notable successes such as Operation Neptune Spear – which involved flying helicopters into ports along Norway's coast in order provide medical evacuations during a conflict between Norway and Denmark – or Operation Market Garden – which saw parliamentary elections being held aboard HMS Ark Royal using helicopter flights as cover while tanks rumbled through town streets beneath! It wasn't until 1969 that HQME created their own Helicopter Squadron with HS-4H “Blackhawk” squadron commanded by Commodore Forrest Pogue Jr.. This marked an important milestone because it marked the first time marines had flown helicopters directly into battle instead of convoy escorts or supporting gunships like they had done before! From then on marine aviation would be focused solely on providing air support for ground troops! In 1973 HQME disbanded completely when all naval aviation elements were amalgamated under Headquartersmarine Corps Europe (HMCEU). Following this disbandment HMCEU adopted a more global approach towards military affairs with various commands operating across numerous theaters around the world including Southern Asia where they operated joint border patrols with Pakistani Army; Mediterranean Sea where they partnered with navies from France/Italy/ Spain; Central Africa Republic where they operated security forces; Balkans where they partnered with Serbian Air Force; Caribbean Sea where they patrolled off Haiti; Western Pacific Ocean where they partnered with Australian Navy…the list could go on! HMCEU would later become known as Commander American Forces Europe (COMAEUR) which effectively dissolved upon COMAEUR's absorption into U.S.-wide Commander American Forces Europe circa 2007.) Beaufort is a town in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia metropolitan area. The name Beaufort comes from Old English Beowulf and its original meaning "place of excelsior or high ground." The first European to visit Beaufort was James Cook on his second voyage in 1779. Cook named it "Boat Island" after Rear Admiral John Boat who had chartered him for that purpose. This name was changed to Beaufort in 1783 when Captain Samuel Sligh discovered and named the cape which forms the town's eastern border. In 1802, Colonel James Long established Fort Augusta within what is now downtown Beaufort on Ashley Point which served as an early capital of the colony. In 1827, General Andrew Johnson recommended that Beaufort be designated a seat of government for South Carolina and this recommendation was accepted by the state legislature.. In 1828, Governor David Yancey approved legislation creating a board of trustees to manage Charleston's Reeves plantation while also authorizing construction of a new courthouse and jail within walking distance of Ashley Point. In 1865 Union General Jubal Early arrived at Petersburg with his army during Confederate General Robert Ewell's attempt to cross over from North Carolina into south Georgia to join up with Early's forces near Savannah; Early destroyed most of Charleston prior to his departure and burned much of what remained afterwards including many buildings occupied by civilians including Beauforts courthouse and jail where he stayed for several days before withdrawing across the Savannah River under cover of darkness without leaving any survivors behind. Beaufort has experienced some significant changes throughout its history: It became an incorporated city in 1903; It lost its charter as an unincorporated community in 1957; It regained its charter as an incorporated city effective January 1, 1960; Lastly, it became a municipality effective July 1st, 2009

This flag had flown at Iwo Jima during World War II and represented the first time that Marines had fought on land together. From 1994-1996, Marine Lance Corporal Evan Lunsford provided monthly adoption charts to marine recruits with his collection of surplus children's clothing from local stores in San Diego County (CA). These charts were often used by recruiters as well as fellow marines when trying to find appropriate clothes for new recruits. In 2002, Corporal Marvin Pohlgras presented a set of ancientMarine shields (made from corrugated iron)to Junior Service Specialist Shawn Fenton . These shields were used by Marines in order to protect them from incoming enemy fire while stationed ashore during operations such as Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom
