The Anderson Guards were a unit of the United States National Guard that was activated inAnderson, South Carolina on May 20, 1921. The unit was originally known as the "Black Watch" and served until 1939. After World War II, the Anderson Guards were disbanded and replaced by the Green Berets. In 1969, the Anderson Guards were reactivated as the "National Guard Unit of Anderson" and served until 1992. In 1995, they became part of theSouth Carolina Army National Guard and remain there to this day. The National Guard Unit ofAnderson is one of only a few units in South Carolina to have its own regimented flag corps (the others being Charleston Battery and Beaufort County Sheriff's Office).
